But Old Ironsides holds the record, if not the capabilities, for longevity.

Death trap. I wouldn't want to be in that boat when China makes its move.

They have 2 of the old boats! And only 2 modern subs. They use a lot of old equipment. They have a couple of old Kidd DDGs, they still use Knox class frigates. I am really surprised they don't have a greater number of modern subs. I guess the China question whether their navy has the skills to use their Navy effectively. China certainly has expertise in building islands though, so their navy might not matter much.

Bush wanted to sell them "modern" SS boats, but the Nuke developers wouldn't tolerate US firms making boats that were an actual, viable alternative to SSNs.

Thus, the WW2 boats are still in service some 76 years later.

The Philippine Navy has decommissioned ex USS Vigilance, an Auk class minesweeper (your get her in AE in summer 43), as recently as March 1st, 2021. They still have an exPCE and an exArmy "FS" Supply ship in active service, both first commissioned 1944. The Thai Navy still keeps a Cannon class DE as a training vessel and "gun salut ship". Anyone knows if the Navy of Vietnam still operates the two LSTs of WWII vintage they have captured in 1975?
