ORIGINAL: ThunderLizard2 Not sure this game would be much of a game if France were strong enough to hold off Axis. If that's of interest, I'd suggest playing the WW1 version of the game where you have a standoff on the Western front. quote:
ORIGINAL: Raptor341 This is my number one issue with all these so called "historical" grand strategy games - they under-represent France by a significant amount to ensure the game progresses on schedule, yet they don't hold the Axis player to the same rules (Like forcing the Italians to invade Greece). In SC WiE it is possible to hold France, if only just. With some of the more realistic OOB mods it is much easier when the French receive their actual number of units vs that of the Germans as historical. If you ask me, it should be a reasonable expectation that the Axis player may fail in this attack on France if he fails to breakthrough because that easily could have happened. The French/BEF deployed poorly, had they held back a defence in depth WW2 could have had a very different outcome. Regardless, as far as game design goes I wish they would stop handicapping the Allied player just to make the Germans have a cake walk at the beginning of the game. I'm looking forward to seeing how WarPlan models this because I'm so tired of seeing the "France is weak, Germany is strong" method of balancing WW2 grand strategy games, at least on the average. I think there can be a compromise between the precise replication of the historical balance of power (which would make the game too tilted toward the Allies) and the current depiction of French strength in this game (which makes the early game too tilted toward the Axis).
