Woollybear -> Adding Kamikaze map (5/6/2021 1:12:06 PM)

Hello, first post and first shout of 'Panpan'.
I bought the game this morning having been totally sold by the excellent Strategy Gaming Dojo videos on Youtube.
I've managed to download the game and patch through the launcher and added the beta patch also.
Having easily configured the game with the Seebee tool, I then tested the game and it runs perfectly...

Except, I can't get the Kamikaze map to load up in the game.
I'm not sure where it should go. I also noticed an update icon in the pack once unzipped I'm just wondering if I need to place the map in a particular folder or do something else with Seebee.
Any help is appreciated [sm=bow.gif]

The map panels go into the ART folder, they will replace that ones that are there, so you should make a copy of the stock ones and save them somewhere.

Thanks Nomad, I gave that a try having saved then replaced the original map files, but I ended up with a black screen with only the flags and ships showing up. It may be a resolution issue in that I've set the game resolution to 2560 x 1400. Never mind I'll get used to it, just happy the game runs ok[:)]

The map you see is not the one the computer uses. There are three digital files that define what the computer sees and there are four flavours of that. I do not know whether the Kamikaze artwork is for the Stock or Extended map.

The four map types are:
1. Stock with stacking limits on certain islands
2. Stock with stacking limits on every land hex
3. Extended map with stacking limits on certain islands
4. Extended map with stacking limits on every land hex

The digital files are available on the "Da Big Babes" website (DBB) which I seem to have lost the bookmark for but should turn up on Google. Once you have the right digital files, just replace the artwork with any style that you like that match the stock or extended type - i.e. some artwork is designed for the stock layout and some for the extended layout. To identify the difference, the extended map has a landmass at the top of the screen between Aden and Karachi and does not have a direct link between Aden and Abadan like the stock map does.

Thanks for the support BBfanboy, really appreciated.
Found da big babes - glad I didn't look on Google while at work[:D]
Something is off and I won't blame my generation by saying I'm not good at PC stuff, yet I did follow the steps and the same stock map showed up.
I created a backup ART folder and moved it out even.
I'll stick with the stock even if if it is a bit too colourful for my liking.

Finally figured it out!
The confusion was in the map type, basic and Extended version.
I made sure I removed the WPEH files from ART and replaced them with WPEN files.
In the game settings:
Map Style = Without hexes
Hexside details =off ( I found with this on the hexes were visible)

Laborious but worth it as I figure I'm going to be looking at that map for months on end[8D]

Except you may be a bit wrong.
The WPEN map panels are for map style without hexes.
The WPEH are for map style with hexes.
Hex side details is completely separate. No matter what map style you are using, it will either display the hexside details or not.

After a bit of thought, I guess what you did was delete both types of hex panels and then only installed one set and your map style was set for the one you did not install.

Thanks for correcting me Nomad, I don't want anyone thinking my method is the right way.
Yep, I bundled all the images into a file and set aside, then repopulated the ART file with a new set (albeit incorrectly named [:D]) Sort of reminds me of the military when there was no immediate solution (beer used as brake fluid works in temperatures over 45°c, jerry cans strapped to the bonnet with a hose bypassing a boken petrol pump, drift wood used to raise a broken suspension - one day I might learn the recommeded and simple way!

Sacrifice beer to have brakes? Oh the humanity! Never! [sm=00000436.gif]
