Every single land unit in China has a popup telling me they have basic supply.. what does that mean exactly? does it break the game if china pushes into vietnam and doesnt take hanoi?

It means they are receiving basic supplies...but no reinforcements.

its not a good thing! You have an issue somewhere in your supply chain....hit the S button you follow the numbers.
Basic supply means that the unit is getting enough supply to keep fighting, but they cant reinforce or upgrade.

Its a situation you will want to fix, most likely you are pushing to far to fast.

Not getting enough supplies over the Burma trail or he built too many units.

First look at your supply centers.

China supply chain is crappy for a reason. It makes it hard for them to attack out and makes it hard to conquer.

Supply starts at a supply center with a level of 9.

It is then reduced by movement cost to enter a hex. So if it cost 5 movement points to enter the next hex then the Supply Center has a supply of 9 and the next hex to it has a supply of 4.

You can see how the hills and mountains make supply in China a nightmare.
Now add in weather effects and you quickly get to hexes that a just a few from a major supply point, but they are only getting 1 supply.

Thats a 1 time download link and it will delete so hopefully whoever gets it can upload or figure out whats going on, i double checked it and most of the units are on rails in around 9 - 6 supply range. This is a game breaking bug either that or i dont know how supply works, maybe you can help

edit: so it looks like changsha is on port supply even though its connected to the main supply by roads and everything south is stuck on port supply, lanchow gets main supply even though there are no roads to it, this is clearly bugged.

Okay so i played around a little and here is the bug, if you are china and you own Vinh but you have not yet taken Haiphong it bugs your whole supply in china, i decided to leave the port and give it to the japanese and once they take it no more supply problems.

I looked at your save file.

Along railroads and at urban centers there is supply level 9, whether it's designated main supply or port supply. Why Chungking, Changsha, and Kunming are not labeled as main supply sources, I don't know. Alvaro may have made them 'level 9 supply' centers - if you look in the manual you'll see that in the supply section.

Vinh has expended it's 20 combat supply points, but can still extend map supply. How any of that is affected by taking or not taking Haiphong, I have no idea.

I realize none of the above is really helpful, so Alvaro is going to have to chime in on this one.

If you load a game those citys are all main supply.. It may have nothing to do with Haiphong but something is clearly wrong here, if you keep playing the game the problem doesn't fix but if you move out of Vinh and advance the turn it fixes. I made a bug thread maybe you can help me and upload the save for some reason it won't let me Thanks

Here is the deal. This was a design issue. Sometimes it is preferable to have main supply, other times port supply. Only a human can make that decision because the factors are too complex for the code to figure out. So I defaulted to port supply having priority since that is usually the better situation. By chance this is not one of them.

So when you take Haiphong with it's rail line it will pick it up and rail it out then reduce it over distance.

I can change some of the rail and terrain so it doesn't interfere with Kunming main supply source. Let me look at it.

The supply in Thailand is tricky. Main supply from India ends at Rangoon and around the Irrawaddy River. There only two level 1 ports in western Thailand that provide a max of 40 Port Supply to cover everything going east. So the Allies are stuck with Basic Supply until they can take Bangkok which will add another 180 supply points. Even then you can only supply about 8 units with the rest remaining in Basic Supply.

The good news is your units can rotate in and out of the Bangkok area to receive replacements and better effectiveness recovery. Plus Japan will to some degree have a basic supply problem around Saigon and Cam Ranh which will aid a push in that direction. Supply trucks and Naval resupply are a big help but this area remains a tough nut for the Allies to crack if adequately defended.
