Dgold -> Question on creating modded campaigns (5/9/2021 11:37:30 PM)

I am working on modified 1941 and 1942 campaigns, to enable the US to bomb most Japanese industrial centers from bases in Saipan/Tinian/Guam, as was done historically. I would extend the base US (only) SB range from 14 to 20, taking advantage of the existing SB 1944 (+4) and 1945 (+10) advancement range bonuses, in order to reach Japan. I will be using this myself, giving it to friends who own WPP, and may upload for the WPP public users.

I had considered modding the SB advancement range bonuses, instead of modding the US base SB range, but the advancement range bonuses apply to SB units from all nationalities. The UK, Japanese and Russians did not use B-29 bombers, so should not have the extended range bonus.

I realize that there had been some negative discussion on this subject - with a valid concern that, with an extended US SB range, the Allied player could (a-historically) base multiple SB units in North Australia, and strategic bomb the DEI oilfields. I am adopting a house rule in my modded campaigns that the Allied player not do so, until he can capture forward bases in Timor, Ambon or the Celebes.

When done, do I simply upload the modified, renamed .cgn file?

When happens when Alvaro releases updated 1941 and 1942 campaign files? Will I have to repeat the modded campaign creation process?
Also, in this case, what will happen to saved games started with one of my modded campaigns.

Thanks for any advice.

Load Pacific 1941
Country -> USA -> Unit Stats -> Strategic Bomber -> Change value for range... I am doing this from memory so I might be off.
File/Quit -> Enter new file name -> save

You will need to copy the files under the 1941 campaign folder to the new one. Maybe reword the scenario description if you like.

Thanks for that advice, Alvaro.

So to upload a complete modified campaign, I would need to upload the new .scn file, plus a zipped campaign directory of the 80 files copied to from the stock 1941 or 1942 campaign folders?

What hppens when you release updated 1941 and 1942 campaign files? Will I have to repeat the modded campaign creation process?
Also, in this case, what will happen to saved games started with one of my modded campaigns.

That is right.

If there is a new update it wouldn't, shouldn't erase your mod. Be sure to name it something different. Like... Pacific 1941_Dgold.scn.

It doesn't impact the save game folder either.

Just be sure to back it up.
