Treefrog -> how to defend Groningen Netherlands? (5/10/2021 9:50:13 PM)

The RN keeps raiding/shore bombarding Groningen.

Without a minefield, how does the Kriegsmarine defend that city from the monthly bombardment that practically neutralizes the MPPS that flow to German coffers without stationing a picket ship off the coast?

Such a picket ship would suffer the same fate as the sheep left for the dinosaurs in Juarassic Park

A coastal defense gun would be ideal. Too bad you can't purchase them or control the placement of the ones you do get. [:(]

Wish I had some better ideas. Maybe you could ring up the Kaiser in Strategic Command: World War One and order up some Great War vintage mines?

I concur on both, but ...................

Well, first of all Groningen is a settlement and doesn't HAVE an MP value.

Second, if the risk of damage while doing shore bombardment isn't cutting it for you in terms of "price the allies pay", there's the obvious "cost" of the unit(s) involved having a limited area where they can be, and thus are potentially in range of (air or naval) counterstrikes.

Depending on the overall strategic situation (and relative research) , parking a single submarine -even if sunk in retaliation - nearby may be worth it just for the "ambush" hit against whatever ship comes in first. Or put it in silent mode to just block the square & likely(?) avoid getting sunk.

..I know I wouldn't waste limited coastal guns or mines on defending _Groningen_ in any case - there's far more valuable places to defend.

It sounds like your opponent is simply bombarding the place for the minor experience boost it provides his naval units. Try to find a similar vulnerable spot for the Allies and return the favor. [:D]

Forza, my bad, you are correct, the town has no MPP value. I saw the "zero" and figured it had been reduced.
Bo's observation that the RN is increasing experience by taking target practice makes sense.

I'm one of the players guilty of this practice and it is for the experience boost. Had this done to me in several games and my opponent got level 12 and 13 ships. I actually think it should be prevented or perhaps an RNG hit should occur to offset somewhat.
