MemoryLeak -> Location of Download (5/12/2021 1:29:03 AM)

HI,

I figure I will catch heck for posting this but I bought CMANO when it came out. And I bought CMO a year or two ago. I had a lot of trouble understanding the game so I deleted it. I still have my original download file for CMANO and I installed it thinking it was CMO. Wasted time there. I discovered it was the wrong one when I tried to install the latest patch for CMO that I got form your site at My pages.

Anyway , on my pages for CMO I am unable to locate a download for the main program. As a last resort I could get the Steam Key and install it through them but I want to put the latest Community Scenarios on and the Latest DB files and I didn't want to have to mess with Steam for that.

So, can anyone direct me to where I can download CMO executable? The only sites that are active are for Canada and Europe and I don't even know if that would be the CMO executable file. Any assistance would be appreciated.

djoos5 -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 3:36:13 AM)

Try here... https://www.matrixgames.com

If you bought it through Matrix, all of your games should be listed on My Page on the Matrix site. If you bought it through Steam, go there.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 5:38:58 AM)

I followed that link but it just takes me to the store. So if I go from there to My Pages I find CMO. And it lists my serial key and under that , file downloads. I click on file downloads and I get this:

gennyo -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 6:39:43 AM)

The middle one is the main program installer, it was updated to base version 1147.14 for a while. They have multiple mirror now so any Download button should provide you with the right file.

thewood1 -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 9:37:30 AM)

If you read the file names, Update, Installer, and DLC installer. You obviously start with the installer, then update, then, if needed DLC installer.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 3:27:22 PM)

Thank you Mr Wood1. For the jab; the snide remark; the backhanded reply. "Obviously" if you are a miserable SOB without a life, then it is perfectly clear to you. Just teasing of course.

What made it unclear, to me , is the Update patch has a single download button, the manual has a single download button. The main installer has three download buttons and none for the USA. I thought something was missing. And I have no idea if I need he DLC installer or not. You have to admit, it isn't as simple as Warplan to install, especially with all the DB additions etc.

So, I downloaded it, slowest download since the stone age, but I digress. I installed it and the patch. Then I put in the two DB's and images and descriptions and the Community ScenarioPack 044. Took five hours.

I started CMO and it said loading please wait and three seconds later it crashed back to the desktop. OK.

The only hiccup during installation was when it got to the C+ part. It had a problem so I opened a log it has and it said something like "it couldn't install the 2017 version of C+ because it found a newer version installed"

Any ideas what might be the problem? A couple of years ago when I went through this it ran fine. Do I need to find the C+ app and uninstall it first before going through the painful process of installing CMO and the sundry files?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thewood1 -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 4:08:26 PM)

If you have the newer version of C++ it and it says that when you try to install, you are fine. Just end the installer.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 4:31:23 PM)

i wish it didn't take so long to extract and install this program because I can't do any experimenting or ZI will die of old age before I get this installed.

I just check and there are 16 versions of Microsoft Visual C++ installed , years 2005 through 2015. with multiples of each year. I have no idea of what the potential repercussions could be on other programs if I uninstalled each one and then tried installing CMO again.

I just did some research and it is a no-no to uninstall the reductant C++ versions. Computer could actually implode...

SO I guess I am stuck. It must be a different problem berceuse CMO installer won't install the C++ version it is lugging around because it finds the other versions.

thewood1 -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 4:48:21 PM)

You don't have to uninstall anything. If it says you have a newer version. Stop. Close the C++ installer. You are done.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 4:57:55 PM)

Okay thanks I will try that. I just wanted to try and make sure because it takes so long to install this game. I have a very good gaming PC. It is all of the extractions that take forever. I am going to stop after I apply the latest patch and see if it runs before dicking around with all of the database installs. I'll see if that makes a difference.

thewood1 -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 5:52:54 PM)

As a best practice, I always run a game between any updates. Just to make sure. It can be a time saver. Obviously.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 7:03:47 PM)

Thanks,

Okay, after initial install game runs. So I will put on the update and the hotfix.

After those files is where I start getting confused and if I drank it would solve my problems, but I don't so, sometime in the past I seem to have downloaded a file called UpdatePack_B1115.7. Is this file out of date or do I need it? If I do need it is this where I have to put the Zipped version in the main CMO directory and unzip it there or do I unzip it and copy and paste the files into the proper directory?

thewood1 -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 7:27:02 PM)

Based on your confusion level, I would stick with the official releases.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 7:56:37 PM)

Thanks and you may be right and I might be exaggerating a small amount. Which I apologize for, but it is because nothing ever seems to go right plus it is hard to read the minds of programmers.

I am selling myself short. I retired after 35 years of working with computers and servers for 911 commcenter and fire and PD organizations. But like I said I try not to assume what is going through a programmer or Modder's mind.

I have down loaded all the latest DB files and images and descriptions etc. But before I install them I was just wondering if that aforementioned file is useful/will add to game experience? (UpdatePack_B115.7)

No on that "115.7" named file, doesn't even sound like it's for CMO but maybe for CMANO.
CMO install:
CMO Multisetup 1147.14[x - done]
CMO Updater 1147.23 [x - done]
Community DB images\map pack [x - optional sounds like you did this]

Start game, verify you can load a scene (any scene), close game.

CMO beta update UpdatePack_B1147.24.7z [completely optional]
To "install"- manually just copy over what exists in cmo folders with what exists in the zip.
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=5018431
Even though completely optional I would recommend the 1147.24 beta though IF planning on doing micro'ing of sub warfare, as it contains a particular torp-tube reload\unload fix as well as a couple others I think some may want applied to avoid problems.

thewood1 -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 8:28:21 PM)

Its not really that hard. I'm not sure why you are having so many issues with it. I would play the game a little and get more familiar with it before you start doing a lot of extra stuff.

The file you are talking about is for CMNAO, not CMO. I'm not even sure where you are seeing that file.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/12/2021 9:25:32 PM)

Thanks everyone. I'm not actually having issues with it. Just being cautious.

I don't know why the initial install went south but this time it worked.

I did the install.
The latest update.
The small hotfix for torps that just came out.

Now I might hold off on the DB files from the Mod section. I don't know if I really need them.

And while all of this was going on I have viewed 6 tutorial video's so far that P Gatcomb made. I intend to watch all of them.

I still have Harpoon 360 that I bought back in the 80's. They didn't really have any good software store here and I happened to get it at a hobby shop. I really like it but the aircraft all seemed to have a mind of their own and wouldn't obey orders, as I recall. That was 40 years ago.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/13/2021 1:34:42 AM)

This is starting out just like it did two years ago and I just want to scream.

I started with the first tutorial, flight. first entry.

I hit space and F6 like it said. Air operations pops up but no aircraft are listed. I tried the second flight tutorial, same situation.

Is this a stand alone game or do I have to jump through more hoops and download the database in the MODs section of the Forums?

Under images for CWDB there is placeholder file and DB3000 has one image.

But under descriptions for both there are a zillion files. This is the sad part because to everyone who lives and breaths this game it is second nature, but anyone new has to have been born into it.

I think the problem could be that I am to select the Ramat Airbase. Anyone know how to do that? There are dozens of squares where it look liket he airbase has to be and I can't find any with the Ramat label. IS there an order of battle list somewhere that I can click on?

Don’t feel bad. I suspect the tutorials were built for the first game (CMANO) but didn’t translate perfectly. I had issues with some of the messages as well.

As far as finding the airbase - you may be in the expanded group view that shows all the assets for the base. Try pressing the 9 key on the number pad to see if it changes the view to a “single unit” airbase, which you can then select.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/13/2021 4:04:32 AM)

thank you I will try that. The first aircraft tutorial that works is the ASW one. So I know some function ok.

Maverick3320---that did the trick. The base icons all grouped into one and the aircraft are there now. Thanks again. are

alphali -> RE: Location of Download (5/13/2021 1:55:56 PM)

I suggest going throught P Gatcomb's tutorials first. Go with the basic one's about movement, maps, WRA, reading database etc. that he did with baloogan. It's much easier to follow as it's visual and you can follow along. It will save you a lot of the headache and frustrations. This link is for the playlist. I suggest follow the first 3 videos, then go down and go through the videos on doctrine and WRA. This should give you some foundation to understand more advanced stuff.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/13/2021 4:55:32 PM)

alphali, thanks and I already started the videos a few days ago. This will be my third attempt at getting into this game. I bought it when it first came out years ago. At that time there was absolutely no help available at all when it came to understanding the rules. SO I shelved it. I tried again in 2019 and I couldn't even get the f'ing formation editor to work. So I shelved it again. I figure this outcome will be the same., you know what they say about repeating insane behavior and expecting a different out come.

the biggest drawback to P Gatcomb videos is he talks so damn fast and he assumes you already understand each menu he brings up and starts manipulating. Basically, he is just playing the game and talking all the way through it. It would be a lot more effect as a teaching aid to thoroughly explain the function of each menu and the sub selections of each menu and why you are doing what you are doing.

If you want an example of a complete waste of time is watch his naval/air operations video. He goes so fast you'd think he had an outboard motor up his ass. It is a click-fest and he doesn't explain anything. I hope I can locate a better set of videos someplace.

alphali -> RE: Location of Download (5/13/2021 5:34:13 PM)

This is why I suggested you start with the first 3 videos of the playlist and then go down and find and watch the two videos on Doctrine and WRA (I can link them if you can't find them). In those videos he explains every tab and option and when to use them (and what could go wrong if you don't use them correctly). Don't go on watching random videos from his tutorials. Start with those basics videos then go to more advanced stuff.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/13/2021 6:19:05 PM)

i have watched them. I'm watching number 8 right now.

It is just like spectating while he plays a scenario. He will display an extremely complicated menu like weapons release authority and make his choices without explaining anything about them.

And air ops menu, there are only about a million combinations of choices but no in-depth explanation of what each function does. or how it will screw you up if you choose it or don't choose it.

And he goes to drop down menus and I have to pause and run it back a dozen times just to try and see what menu e pulled down and which selection he made.

I don't want to watch him play a game, I want detailed slow step by step instructions and explanations, otherwise all he is doing is playing a game , not teaching.

ultradave -> RE: Location of Download (5/13/2021 6:36:49 PM)

Working your way through ALL the provided tutorials will really help. They usually stop and have a pop up window to explain what is happening and/or what you should do next. I've found the timing of those isn't always perfect but usually close enough that you don't get lost. And those messages are in the log too so that even if you close and resume, if you then forget what you were told to do, you can find it again in the message log (go ahead, ask me why I know this :-) ).

I did read the part where you were having some trouble with the tutorials. Sounds like you got that sorted? The air ops and strike tutorials will get you going with a lot of the concepts and menus, including the Mission Editor, with a fairly small number of units to control.

Dave

alphali -> RE: Location of Download (5/13/2021 7:05:41 PM)

I don't understand the confusion, this video on doctrine settings he goes into every option and sub-option and describes what it does and how to use it. And this video on WRA settings where again he goes into detail on every option and how to use them. Those are not gameplay videos but detailed explanations of every tab and option.

Just keep in mind this is a very complicated game and you have to be patient with it. You won't understand everything from the start.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/13/2021 7:46:30 PM)

Ultradave, I am currently working my way through the tutorials provided within the game. I'm trying to give it every chance to succeed this time. I haven't even played a scenario yet. ANd the one thing I remember from 2019 is that no matte what I did, I couldn't get the formation editor(menu?) to function for a group of ships. I haven't tried this time yet.

alphali, the only thing I can think of is we are watching different videos. I just finished number nine which is ASW. I will try you links and see that you are talking about. THe ones I am watching goes in to a lot of tactical info but no practical info like how to maneuver thru a menu with dozens of options.

**************************okay I just listed to the link you had to WRA. He does provide a lot of information but he goes way too fast for me. I mean really fast. I'll have to replay it a dozen times to get anything out of it. What is his f'ing hurry? It is very discouraging before I even get started. He is not an effective instructor. He is just showing off his knowledge.

There isn't three people on the face of this planet who can understand how to use WRA and the other stuff related to it.

Why isn't there a setting that overrides all of the other WRA settings called " you are the f'ing trained pilot, use the number of missiles or bombs that gets the job done?" instead of all that other horseshit?

There are plenty, it just takes awhile to "click" for some weeks, others months or years. The recent enhancements that showing the red|yellow differences for inheritance is a helpful recent addition in this regard so you can more easily see when something doesn't match a parent or child - which often you want them different, but it's a helpful indicator when you into one of those "god damn it why is it not doing what I thought I told it to do" situations and you're looking for a cause. ;)

My tip, is not to bite off too much in any one session, and do as you're doing watch video tutorial (even if you have to 1/2 speed them), then play around yourself with topics covered in tutorials or videos, and slowly learn the database. It's a game you learn over months not days. [:)]

quote:

"Why isn't there a setting that overrides all of the other WRA settings called " you are the f'ing trained pilot, use the number of missiles or bombs that gets the job done?" instead of all that other horseshit? "

Well there sort of is with use missile defense value, but it a more complicated topic than that as there are assumptions with that number with certain type of munition used against it.

But say you're trying to idk hit a Bunker (Large C3M) that is 1200dmg pt + heavy or special armor.
It has a somewhat accurate generic missile defense value of like 6. But 6 of what? 6 mavericks or sdb's aren't going to going to make a big dent (probably 30%) even if they all hit directly. You gotta best guess based on munitions involved, armor, how many will get through to target,and at times the number of aimpoints (that little number next to the target square). This can take some planning, and database lookups about the target being hit, which idk frankly is what 1/2 this game is about. So you'll find that something like 6 ~200dmg pt munitions (jassm) may not do the job if like in this case there is special armor, yet 6 ~200pt penetrating munitions that have direct hits will(jassm-pen), or 3 525+dmg (agm-86d) pt precision penetrating munitions will kill it. So not only does warhead size matter, but type matters.

Swap that example with a modern radar and sam site, say it's got dmg pt of like 0 but 12 mount aim points to hit, you fire off 16 munitions at it, say 3 get through, RNG throws you a bone and 1 actually knocks out the FCR component. Do you need to waste more munitions at it? Well you might if it's CEC or it has some other way to launch or maybe it's search radar is still a problem for you, but if not, then you're done, mission kill but the ai can't really know that - not from wra selection perspective anyway.

When in doubt there is always manual\micro control shift-f1 to fire exactly how many you want, of what you want, targeted at who you want, and I use it...often. [:)]

alphali -> RE: Location of Download (5/14/2021 9:24:06 AM)

You seem to be quite impatient, if you expect to master the game and understand every aspect of it in a couple of days you will be disappointed.

quote:

He does provide a lot of information but he goes way too fast for me

And yet the video is 40min long, this is a complex topic and you will not understand it in one go. He can't go too slow or the video will take 5 hours to finish.

I suggest you watch the doctrine video that I also linked before, now after watching the video on WRA and doctrine you should attempt the tutorials. Don't watch and rewatch the videos they will be too abstract. Play the tutorials see what you do and don't understand then you can rewatch the videos but now you will have a better understanding of what to focus on. Rinse and repeat. That's how I learned it anyways.

quote:

Why isn't there a setting that overrides all of the other WRA settings called " you are the f'ing trained pilot, use the number of missiles or bombs that gets the job done?" instead of all that other horseshit?

As KnightHawk said and as explained in the WRA video, this is the default parameter "Target's missile defense value". It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. This is a sandbox simulator, too many variables and situations, so its impossible for the AI to behave "properly" in every situation. With time you will get the feeling of it, of when to use it and when to override it.

MemoryLeak -> RE: Location of Download (5/14/2021 4:41:50 PM)

I think this is hopeless for me but I will try one more time. I fired up the scenario Bridges at Toko_ri. I just wanted to mess around and with that time period the weapons should be easier to manage. (I will continue with the tutorial videos later).

But I can't even create a new mission.

I want to set up a patrol area for the DD Higbee that is just n/o the cag. and keep it in the same relative bearing to the CAG.
I chose "define area"
I chose new mission
Named it North Picket
But it always comes up as a new air mission. Never for a ship no matter what type I pick.

How di I get the missoin editor to allow me to do something with a ship and not a plane all the time?

As you can see, if Ican't do this then I am probably doomed.
