akvilonn -> Can't figure out the new air mode (5/12/2021 9:26:46 PM)

Hi all,
I need to move my air forces, and to make a first day attack a big success on Soviets I need my recon on manual (like in the first game you right click and you get recon/detection level).

I cant figure out the interface, and I've read the manual on air, its all different/confusing now, please give me a lumber jack down to earth layman's instruction how to click and recon a specific enemy hex.
Thanks

P.S. ai air control is turned off, I just dont know how to MOVE an individual air unit

Read the one page guides (see sticky in forum). Read chapter 4 in the manual. There's a million posts in here and war-room that go over it at a good level. Also there's strategy gaming dojo's guides on youtube (he's not that good of a player but seems to get most things correct)

Recon is a directive now during air phase. You cannot do recon manually on a mission basis during ground phase. With air supply you can.

Thanks for one page guides, it is more informative then watered down manual.
Am so used to recon the hexes first in the original game, then bombing those airfields by switching a button...(playing with fog of war).
Now, I set air doctrine to recon for the first turn, have ai run it, and I cant switch to bombing in same turn. I guess gotta rtfm again, thing is so counter intuitive.

I wouldn't really consider a 500 page manual "watered down". And it's the best manual made for any Grigsby game. I can tell you having played every Grigsby game that this is the easiest one to get into. Just take it slow, it won't take that long to get up to speed.

Just bought the game yesterday but had some experience with WITW so the new air system is OK for me. There's just one point I don't understand: It's about Luftflotte 1.
Why does Luftflotte 1 has a counter on the map (cf. selected counter on the image) and why not Luftflotte 2 and 4 (and other air sub-groups) ? The manual says that air units don't have counters. So what is this LuftFlotte 1 counter for ?
Thanks.

air commands such as the Axis Luftflotte & the Soviet air commands have an on map counter as well as the lable/tab you use for management and allocations

the lower level AOGs (both say the JGxxx and any Corps) don't.

This is in the manual, discussed in the play through in chapter 4 (which I would seriously suggest as a starting point even if all you do is follow those steps - it will help with a lot of the game mechanisms and conventions). Basically we still need the conventional HQ to hold the leader and as a trigger to the allocation of support squads to airfields. So as long as they are within 90 hexes of where that luftflotte is concentrated then you have no problems.

@loki100, thanks for this response . It helps. Will definitely read (at least) chapter 4 then :-)
