Eboreg -> Go fast to vanish? (5/13/2021 2:22:00 PM)

I've been messing around with Hail Mary lately and found out that ground-based TV cameras like the one on the HQ-9 are less able to detect stealth bombers like the B-2 if they're going fast. I just want to understand the rationale behind this because it seems rather counterintuitive to me.

Just did a quick test.

Day Clear skies. Head on. 36000 ft

480kts- detection 9.2nm
540kts- 8.9nm

Hail Mary one of my fav scenes. [:)]

@Eboreg How did you come to that conclusion, just curious, never noticed such. The small demo from bdukes is indicative more of just scan interval flux imho. Do you have a sample where there is a larger difference of > 0.6 or so nm due just to speed?

In the opening stages, I do deep strike mission with B-2s in order to shut down some Chinese runways. This involves routing 2 of them nest to the northern play boundary in order to hit Danyang and Anqing with JASSMs. While figuring out how to hit both without coming under attack, I realized that the B-2 I have going at cruise speed in order to conserve fuel since it already released on Danyang gets detected by the HQ-9s camera and the B-2 I have going at military power to get to Anqing ASAP doesn't get detected. This is actually very important to not get shot down by the fighters that are really close.

Hmm, would that have anything to do with the direction it is going and therefore the aspect the cameras are looking at it from?

Notwithstanding BDukes' test the visual aspect will have a lot to do with detection.
