Hello,

I am curious if there are any plans to run both the Europe and Pacific game together into a global level game, where nations like the US have to split production, etc.

Thanks,

Joe

That's WarPlan 2 after all the issues with both WPE and WPP have been worked out.

I'm probably in the minority, but I wouldn't want a global game. It seems to me that theatre-specific games could benefit from smaller scale hexes and more tailored AI.

I'm in the majority. [:)]

Alvaro, before committing to WarPlan 2, starting from scratch, wouldn't it be possible to simply put the two excisting games togehter into WarPlan World?

It would have all the improvements in the naval system that Pacific have, with the two maps simply laid side-by-side like two maps on a table, adjoined by jump-hexes between them. As far as I can see, the two present games are interchangable. Some decisions have to be taken regarding infantry sizes and such, the European naval system must be re-worked just a bit to adhere to the fact that there's now individual ships, with the production looked over so it spans both theatres. I can't see any difficulty for doing this game-wise; maybe there is program-wise.

WarPlan 2 will probably take years to do. WarPlan World would keep at least me happy while waiting for the new one.

With the current data structure it wouldn't work for PBEM. At the time I made WarPlan I didn't know the data restrictions. So the save files have to be zipped then uploaded. A world game would be too large for PBEM. Then there are other issues also. I'd have to rework a lot which would still take 2 years.

Pacific was started right after WPE came out in 2019. It got released 2021. It's mostly the same engine. Putting a world game together would require at least as much time.

As of right now the engine for WP2 is being created.

Alvaro,

Thanks for your reply.

I was thinking something like World in Flames, which does have different scales per theater. But certainly, the complexity of computer programming and PBEM, etc., would make it more difficult than it at first would seem.

Regards,

Joe

Well I would be happy with a world one which was just PBEM...

Then theatre ones that you can work with the AI as well as PBEM.

Sadly no matter what the game the AI can never think to far out of the box.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Europe/Pacific (5/24/2021 12:45:24 PM)

Well the only way to play a world game, in my opinion, is the double scales. 25m Europe, 50m Pacific. You put in the important theaters and perhaps off map hexes similar to the South American resources. You just can't make everything 25m or it would be unplayable.

Anyways the point is I can take this same engine and in 2 years make it a world game
OR
I can develop the 2nd engine, the fantasy wargame as a test model to iron out the kinks, then make WarPlan 2 for a 3-4 year release which will be global and better.

What I plan to do for WP2 players will lose their minds and be quite happy with.

I hope you at least bought some stock of the current engine.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Europe/Pacific (5/24/2021 1:56:44 PM)

I have roughly $8,000 invested in Unity. I invest in things I understand. Their engine is really good for apps and it is cross platform. I think they will continue doing well. They challenge unreal engine. It complies faster, and is easier to use for non-coders. I don't personally like the graphic interface and prefer to code things but that's because I am older. For younger people it is good. They are expected to turn a profit. I got in around $90 per share but this is a long term investment for me.

FirstPappy -> RE: Europe/Pacific (5/24/2021 2:29:46 PM)

Then it sounds like you will be staying with Unity as the "base" engine and the engine you say you are now creating for WP2 is your layered application?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Europe/Pacific (5/24/2021 4:29:37 PM)

Yea since I am used to it now lol.

I designed my own map making system within Unity to reduce CPU use.
That is now improved for WP2

incbob -> RE: Europe/Pacific (5/24/2021 5:05:50 PM)

Take your time.
We can wait.

Uxbridge -> RE: Europe/Pacific (5/24/2021 6:51:39 PM)

Well, I suspected that there might be difficulties in the programming process. Any possibility of the naval FoW system to be exported to WPE while we're waiting? I have noticed that many of the WPP features regarding naval matters have sneaked over? I have yet to start a PBEM in WPP, but find the cat-and-mouse part of the game very interesting.

Likewise, I feel the same.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Europe/Pacific (5/27/2021 2:10:38 PM)

Somethings can be moved some can't due to additional data in WPP.

Technically everything can but then it will break all current games.
