Gilber -> Unable to find PW data (5/25/2021 5:57:45 AM)

Hello,

I Install on my new PC "WITP AE".
I installed "Update v1.01.26a" and after "BETA V1.01.26b"
I launch the GAME with new shortcut and option ( -fd -altfont -cpu3 -dd_sw -px1920 -py1080 -deepColor -skipVideo)
I have error message "Unable to find PW data!!!)
How can I resolved my problem?

Thanks in advance for your kelp.

Don't use the new shortcut that launches the game from a new executable file in a newly created beta folder.

Copy the new executable from the beta folder to the root game folder (overwriting the older executable).

Then use your original shortcut.

It's looking for the PWdata file in the same folder as the executable and not finding it because your PWdata file is in the root game folder and the executable you are launching is not.

UnsaUnsa -> RE: Unable to find PW data (6/3/2021 3:41:27 PM)

Unfortunately I am still struggling with this. I had this game working before a couple of years ago on a different machine but I can't seem to do it with this install.

I have downloaded and run the installer
I downloaded and ran the beta patch

Like the OP I ran the shortcut from the desktop that was created and got the PW error message

I then followed your advice and copied the exe from the beta2 folder to the main folder, but I have the same PW issue still.

Any more advice?

In your Beta2 folder, you should have a file called pwsdll7.dll . Copy the file and paste it onto you main game folder.

Before you installed any of the patches did you install the game?

Had the same error a few days ago on my new computer. Found this threat from 2014 https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3651026.

In short: Create a shortcut for the exe in the Beta2 folder. Open the properties of the shortcut. Check the path in the "Start in" line and delete the "Beta2" at the end. Save and move the shortcut to the desktop and/or taskbar.

Hint - the forum search function is not very good. Better to enter in the URL of your browser site:http://www.matrixgames.com/forums "War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition" [search key words]

I can not get this to run either without the pw error after installing the patch.
there are no password files in my game directory d:\games , they are in the beta2 folder. if i copy them to the root makes no difference if i run the shortcut with beta2 but start in @ d:\games makes no difference. are there any step by step instructions anywhere there are 3 posts on this with multiple different answers

Kull -> RE: Unable to find PW data (9/17/2021 6:24:49 PM)

Follow the directions in this post. It includes many screenshots, so it should be easy to compare with your own set-up.

btd64 -> RE: Unable to find PW data (9/18/2021 10:43:39 AM)

I have never had a PW problem. Maybe it's because I reboot the computer after the main game is installed. Then I go for 1126b....GP

Kull -> RE: Unable to find PW data (9/18/2021 10:01:20 PM)

In general, PW errors happen because the executable cannot locate other required files. The most common reason for this is that people have not installed the base game, but rather started with the 11.26a patch. Then they compound the error by installing the beta-which-no-new-player-should-even-THINK-about.

Or you installed everything correctly but are trying to launch the game from the installed shortcut...which does.not.work.

At this point your install is probably completely bollixed, and you'd be well advised to uninstall or delete the whole mess and start over, but this time with ONLY the base game. If you can get that to work, THEN install the 11.16a patch, and then get that to launch (Trugrit's thread will show you how to do all of that). Under no circumstances install the Beta. It literally does nothing except confuse the hell out of new players.

SilentHunter -> RE: Unable to find PW data (9/19/2021 3:14:52 AM)

Got it working now, opened a support ticket and they sent me a registry cleaner file, once i ran that them installed main game, patch a, patch b everything works now. I did need to take the .exe from the beta2 folder to the root to get patch b working but no other changes made. I think I screwed up the very first install and obviously something to do with the serial number would not allow additional installs to run until the registry serial was deleted. thanks all foe the guidance.
