AllenK -> Never Mind the Bolsheviks: AllenK (Soviets) vs Warspite1 (Axis) (5/30/2021 7:54:36 PM)

Welcome to the companion AAR, written from the Soviet perspective, on this iteration of the struggle that ultimately determined the outcome of WWII.

Like my opponent, I am a complete newbie to WITE, so this will be very much on the job learning. I've played around with the Road to Leningrad scenario as Axis and the two introductory scenarios as USSR but that's my lot. Having been brought up with human vs human play on classic board games and latterly with MWiF and Strategic Command, I can't quite get the motivation to play against the AI. Hence, our pretty much jumping straight into the deep end with the full campaign.

Looking at the events screen, it appears I do not have enough forces in Trans Caucasus and the Far East. Will have to come back to this later.

Opening losses look to be around 10% of ground units but roughly a third of the air force.

Main effort at the moment appears to be the North and Centre. Riga has fallen and other bridgeheads over the Dvina preclude this as a potential defensive line. Minsk falls in the centre.

Southern front appears less dramatic.

Operational command of the air forces is under the control of a shadowy figure only known by the initials A.I.

Overall strategic direction remains with STAVKA HQ. All air commands have been set to Day missions. North Western and Western commands have been given maximum priority for supply and assets. South Western set at 3 for these and the others set to 2. Baltic command has been given naval orders to interdict Riga so as to disrupt its potential use as a forward supply base for the Axis. Ground Support is toggled 'on'.

No sorties were flown, so no losses either.

Ah yes, Andrey Ilyich! A fine air commander is Mr. A.I.

I am glad we also get to see the Soviet perspective in this game. Good luck to you.

In the north, blocking forces are put in place whilst other units try to find their way out of the pockets.

Pretty much a similar state of affairs in the south.

Turn 2 29/06/41

Pretty colossal losses as the German's finish off many trapped units.

Baltic Air Command takes a hammering. Will have to have a look at the AI settings next turn.

Will post some screen shots later.

Essentially, the Germans spent the turn eliminating many of the pocketed units. They also pushed a few hexes North East from Riga and a few hexes East from Minsk.

South remains quieter with no great advance yet.
