herbertsaupe -> [AI bug already on bug list] AI on 100 morale warping around units? (6/3/2021 7:28:47 PM)

Hello,
i am seeing a strange behaviour of the AI. Playing as Germany, started with 100 AI, lowering it in the grand campaign after some turns to 90. Right now:100 morale , 50 fort building, 90 logistic, 90 transport, 90 admin.
It seems like the AI in my game warps her units around like it has 110 morale. every time i achieve a breakthrough and do a spearhead with my panzers, next turn they are fully blocked by masses of units, fully supplied coming from nowhere.
I saw that twice in my campaign so i decided to have a look with fog of war off. I did a breakthrough and encirclement of ruusian units...all looked good most forces in this area were in it. Next turn masses of enemy units blocked them. Ok, panzers probably could march a long way i thought, but they were nearly all infantry divisions.
Am i missing something here? Is this a feature...than ok...kills the imersion for me(like it easy, haha) or is it a bug? And what bug, did i destroyed something in my savegame files or is it in general there. So starting a new campaign wont help!?

Can please a developer take a look or confirm this?!

I really love this game, but right now i am not willing to play against an AI that warps around. Probably later..
PS: right now, i dont know how to atach savefiles..if needed probably somebody can help

greetings

We got a save a few days ago from a tester for a situation where a big area of the front had 2 major encirclements and the AI at 100 did warp in. So we know it's doing something unintended and it replicates for us so Gary should be able to fix it. We've got a few tough bugs ahead of it in the queue, but it's high up on the list.

Gary's confirmed that he does have a delayed cheat in the game, even at 100. Basically if it wants to fill a gap in the line it will flag a unit (or several units) as to where it wants the unit to go. He won't warp the unit that turn. On the next turn, the unit is allowed to move in a range of hexes around that location. So a turn later it could warp into the area. The intention was to give the AI some flexibility in movement over time, but not to see huge numbers warp in immediately. In the case sent to us by a tester, the gap was huge, and the AI was clearly losing and lacking in men and units so it would become much more visible.

What would help to get an idea of the extent of the issue is to have saves over a few turns (both axis and Soviet start of turn saves - end too if you have them). So we can see how it's reacting because the intention wasn't to hyper react immediately to gaps. If it's always reacting immediately this is not intended at all. We could remove the delayed cheat, but I don't think people would find that satisfying either, so we'd like to see if we can improve it so it's not an overwhelming cheat.

You can attach your saves to an email and send it to 2by3@2by3games.com, or condense them into a .zip file and attach the file to a post by clicking on the click here to upload! link right below the text you are typing. Thanks.

Hi Joel,
thats a hell of an answer. I like it very much that you guys are so open to your customers and discuss problems in the game and not saying it works as intended or simply give a **** about it...
There are not much companies or developer teams, that work like this and have the intention to really finish a product. Thats why you have so much(hope so) loyal customers/fans.

So i will try to send you the saves(named properly) in the next hours. The first ones are from beginning of mai 1942 and show wharping in to stop the spearhead or block the tank corps.

Beside these i have a couple of saves from turn 16 that shows a big encirclement in the south near stalino, where i sealed a pocket and in the pocket is a harbour. If the harbour was left open nearly all troops escaped.
Mostly infantry units, and it was light mud. So their march range should not allow them to reach the harbour. Added to that i tried (and saved) all forms of air interdiction to stop them using the harbour to escape. Didnt worked, even harbour interdiction. Think i read in the manual, that it should be possible to stop or hinder movement by air interdiction.

So in the first encounter for me it seems that the AI is reacting instantly not with delay, in the second too....probably marking units outside and then used it to escape?
By the way i am with you, the Ai cheat is not that bad. So Ai shoul be able to bring in some troops to slow down a spearhead. That feels like kind of transports by train to place troops fast enough in the rear. Would be better to train the AI to do it by trains but probably too difficult to implement?
Hopefully you can find a good way to minimize the cheats but keep a strong AI. Probably training the AI to hold some strong tank units in reserve something like 5 hexes away from detected offensive masses?! And making them counterattack the spearhead by cutting them off their supply. Thats the way i would try....

Other thing, i encountered a bug with Luftflotte 2 AOG. In one turn it retired, but in the air directive phase i can give them orders, even if its counter is not on the map. Later in turn 45 or so, i rebrought my air sqadrons in and now the counter is on the map...Will send a save too.

Please tell me by mail or in this thread, if you got the save files...

Greetings to you and the team
stay healthy

Thanks, I appreciate your response. We try to improve things when possible. Unfortunately I didn't get any saves from you to the 2by3@2by3games.com email. I got save files from someone a few days ago, so I know I can get them. Maybe a zip file is an issue, or maybe too many at once is an issue?

I would appreciate if you have other kinds of bugs if you would start a thread for each different problem, and then if you email saves make sure to reference the thread with in the email. That makes it much easier for me to flag what's been looked at or added to the list and which are still to be reviewed. There's a lot to review now so that makes it much easier to make sure issues get in the system. The AOG issue sounds like a problem worthy of it's own thread and bug report. Army level AOGs are not supposed to be on the map without an Army level HQ counter. I don't think the situation is supposed to happen, but if it does, I understand it could cause problems.

Hi Joel,

do you have a possible ETA for fixing this bug/strange behaviour of A.I. Did not see any comment in the latest patch about it...
Stopped playing because of this and cant wait to go on with my campaign.

Greetings

Gary's been testing a new system. The trick is to get it to do something, but not too much. He's marked it done since I last spoke with him on Friday, but I haven't tested it yet. It may get into a new version this week, but I can't say for sure. We've been testing a version with the in-game scaling preference functioning and it might get released this week before Gary's AI changes get in. Assuming we're happy with the way the AI is performing after the change, I'd expect it will get out sometime in the next few weeks.
