vilcum -> customizing counters (6/10/2021 11:02:12 AM)

I want to share with the community my customized set of counters, I have included previously most of them in separate post, this is a way to have all of them combined and explained.

I use a different set for each zoom level (even two different sets for the maximum size!) so I do not think many people actually liking/ using them all , so I provide the tga files primarily for newbie modders (as myself) to explore the different possibilities merging some ideas with a free software tool as GIMP.

Some general notes:

National colors: I use different colors for each counter size on some nationals (Rumanians are the most extreme example) . I do not use any two/colored counters (i.e. stock Luftwaffe and non-elite SS).

I use feldgrau instead of grey as the standard base color for Germans at all scales. – (taken from 821Bobo own counter mod)

Nato symbols : I use as a base the excellent counters by Kel (those I strongly suggest to anyone who want to have a standard counter on all sizes) , but I modified some of them to my own taste , notably security and light infantry.

Description and examples:

Size 1 9x9 – general positions view: Counters by national color (modified!) and an army color top band to the combat counters, and marks the different HQ units sizes .

Examples: Italian unit (white army color) , OKH attached corps HQ, Army counter (red border) and Army group counter (white border)

Size 2 18x18- Unit size view : Counter are limited to only show nato symbol (in army colours) and a down national colour band with somewhat oversized nato unit size code.

Examples , Hungarian light inf division –light blue army- , german corps HQ –electrical blue army- , Italian Army HQ –light blue army- and German Army Group.

I also use oversized airbase counters in this zoom level, as I finf it useful to find space while rebasing.

Size 3 28x28 – “kirsch” view. This is the more useless set of counters, for the less used –for me- map size… In fact I designed this counters for situational type maps (more clear) and in another zoom level---- as combat factors are not showed at this size I did not find the idea to make some “cleverer” icons.

Counter (more markers) show a SIDE coloured flag (blue axis, red soviets) over a national colour little band (only for guards and non germans) . The army colour is showed on the white by default little squares of the chessboard army marker on that band.

Roughly based on german (non-nato) symbols all markers are infantry by default, with german –based symbols for tanks, mountain, HQ (Stb), etc…

The SIZE marker is also German terminology based (flag), plain squares for regiments, different triangles for brigades and divisions, and square markers for corps and army.

Examples:

Soviet tank corps, german infantry division, Italian infantry brigade, Italian infantry regimental grouping, german corps HQ, german Army HQ, and german AG HQ.

Size 4 36x36- Standard play zoom. The most standard-like counters for this level, mostly Kels counters (with a few modifications on nato symbols as noted) and 821Bobo counter colours (also with my noted modifications). I use a broad army colour band in ALL HQ counters to easily distinguish them from combat units

Examples: guard division, German security brigade, Hungarian light division, Rumanian infantry divisions (stacked) SS mech regiments, German corps (blue army), German army HQ (blue army)

Size 5 44x44 - tabletop zoom. tabletop-like counters for this level, Nato symbols (with even more modifications to personal taste and old tabletop games, as the motorized) and different counter colours (blue Rumanians i.e.). Again I used a broad army colour band in ALL HQ counters to easily distinguish them from combat units, the army affiliation in “combat” counters is not displayed in the nato symbol, but in a little “army flag”.

Examples:

German panzer regiments –orange army-, Italian mountain division – okh army-, Luftwaffe field division –akh assigned-

Size 76x76 (super counters only showed on the unit id cards NOT on map)

Those are HEAVILY based on the Non-Nato-Counters by kosmoface Modified some types I think “more proper” , to add complexities I use TWO sets, one when playing each side.

Examples : German infantry division, soviet army, and full unit card of soviet bryansk front

Kel -> RE: customizing counters (6/11/2021 12:28:11 PM)

I love these counters. The color gradients are v good

M60A3TTS -> RE: customizing counters (6/11/2021 6:26:52 PM)

Regarding 4, this was similar to a counter mod in WiTE. The problem I found was that the red color of guards units when stacked did not stand out particularly well at the more zoomed out levels. As a result it was harder to organize the guards units. If the brighter red used in 5 was similar to or in this set, it would be much better.

Allways so precise M60, it really seems better now

These look great man. Cheers

vilcum -> RE: customizing counters (8/9/2021 9:19:37 AM)

Size 4 (Counters36) corrected, I was using smaller simbols for some unit types by mistake (i.e. airlanding and partisans), link updated

cz6hp4 -> RE: customizing counters (8/12/2021 9:44:33 AM)

Love the new counters! One question I have, when I have installed these, when I click on a German HQ unit, it shows the USSR hammer & sickle flag, anything I am doing wrong here?

I've got the same, suspect its patch related in some obscure way

speedyglides -> RE: customizing counters (8/12/2021 10:37:24 AM)

I've got the same problem but after installing (in fact reinstalling) the 1.01.02.

vilcum -> RE: customizing counters (8/12/2021 11:31:50 AM)

Not patch related (if you only see that on the right bar big counters)

In the files there are TWO sets of 72x72 counters, I made one for each side (as you only see your own 72x72 counters)

Counter76x76.tga
Counter76x76 -german.tga

the first one is the SOVIET version, you have to rename the second to play with german

moichris -> RE: customizing counters (11/6/2021 5:53:54 PM)

Very interesting set of counters,thank you.

Soviet color remember me an old board game. the russian campaign.

Miastowy -> RE: customizing counters (11/8/2021 2:55:49 AM)

nice!

Action Camper -> RE: customizing counters (12/28/2021 2:51:46 PM)

I have to admit, i'm totaly into the "more useless" kirsch view 28x28. For me, these counte bring the most immersion.
I try to convert this to the 36x36 and 44x44 size, but i'm a total newbie in GIMP.
Did you all handcraft them or build them in the biggest size and then rescale them?

I am glad they like you! , sadly I cannot help with bigger sizes as I made them directly for 28x28, rescalation may need some later work as it was quite tricky to make the size flags
