Endsieg -> Ju52 losses since start(automated?) (6/14/2021 5:08:29 PM)

I know there was a previous topic/thread abt this weeks ago, but i cant find it.
-if i read the production screen correctly, i seem to have hundreds of Ju52 losses since start?
--I have to guess the great bulk of these losses are due to automated Air transport of supply at the end of every Axis turn?

---can one prevent this? as in NOT using AI Air Assistance; or some other manual setting?
Obviously, the idea is to use the Ju52s at a moment of your choosing as the player....

If you disable AI Assist option in Game Options you can still use AI Assist but you'll get a chance to tweak it before hitting end turn.

What you can do is hit F11 to Activate Air Assist. Then switch to air transport mode and you can delete out all the supply missions it's set-up (or make your own), but still get the benefits of all other AI assist things that it does.

Or, if you're fully manual you won't have this problem as no air supply missions will run unless you specifically set them up.

good, if tricky answer(procedure) . thanks Bamilus

@ Bamilus,
sorry, i tried all permutations/chronologies of your advice, BUT I never got to a screen where i " can delete out all the supply missions it's set-up".
Can u pls post a screen shot of what this screen even looks like, with the visible option to delete supply missions?
Is it a question of WHEN one disables AI Air Assist (before u open the game?, after logistics?, after Air Execution but before ground combat?, or when when you are ready to end your turn?)
Or are these (automated) Ju52 losses simply something one has to live with if you're not ' fully manual' in the air war?

Air resupply is done during the ground phase, not air execution. So when you're done moving ground units, hit AI air assist button. Then go to the air transport screen (22.5 in manual).

But now that I think of it, there might not be a way to turn this off. But that's where I'd look. If there's nothing in there then I think you're just stuck living with AI always choosing transport missions.

You can maybe try and manually get them to not do it by running AI assist and setting the JU-52 squadrons to rest (you can use the Commanders Report). That way the AI won't use them on missions. You'd have to do this after every AI Assist press, however.

Other than that I can't really think of anything. I don't use AI Assist for these reasons and also because after first turn it really doesn't take that long to manually adjust air units and missions each turn.

@Endsieg

I recall that there was a suggestion in the forum to assign the transport air-groups to follow HQs that are not close to the frontline. You may also give it a try.

yes this is good advice, while its tempting to push air supply right to the front that often is a long haul (ops losses) and vulnerable to fighters.

pick a target say 5-8 hexes behind the line, the supply will help even in this case

threw in the towel and sent all on map Ju52 airgroups to (axis) reserves.
This seems to be the only way to prevent use and slow decimation of Ju52s during the automated air supply mission at end of your turn(s) (unless u disable AI Air Assist and go completely manual)
Am I correct?
These automated air supply missions are a random pinprick on some friendly airbase wherever.
Was this not discussed/noticed during playtesting?
