AlvaroSousa -> Status update (6/15/2021 3:06:57 PM)

This week I am working on scenario patches for both games. I will be putting up beta scenarios near the end of the week.

I know I created a bug when the autocorrect in visual studio put in the wrong variable for LC costs on armies instead of armor. It will have to be fixed next patch.

I have a long time friend in town I have not seen in years. So I am entertaining him. We are playing a lot of poker this week.

Just do the WP community a big favor and fold immediately on aces and eights. We don't want to lose you [;)]

Enjoy your old friend company!

Is it like in the movies?

"Rounders" is an excellent movie story but the poker betting is completely wrong. If you bet like they did in the movie you would lose or never get paid.
"Lucky You" is an ok movie story but the poker is excellent. It was taken from real hands from professionals.
"Casino Royal" totally ridiculous poker, great movie.

If one does not play poker like 007 is it worth playing? I actually wrote an AAR based on it…

Also, if you are doing scenarios it might be nice to know what you’re working on exactly (AI only?) so the kidding community doesn’t duplicate effort.

I like a lot "Rounders"!

But did not know "Lucky you", thanks for the recommendation.

Try "The Cincinnati Kid"

coachi -> RE: Status update (6/25/2021 1:28:56 PM)

Rounders betting wrong but hand feasible. Casino royale would never happen - same thing in last hanfd in Cincinnati kid. Unbelievable, but its a good movie and other hands could happen. This i like in all the poker movies are the string bets - “ i see your bet” - chips go in and then “and raise you “more chips go in. Lol. I’d walk out of any game that allows that

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Status update (6/25/2021 2:06:57 PM)

Angle shooters are rare at the casino. No casino allows push some chips in then more so. It has to be one move.

eskuche -> RE: Status update (6/25/2021 5:27:44 PM)

Looks like talks of movies got this removed from the top list! [;)]

Al, it might be worth consolidating some of the now-old news to make it easier on the eyes. Or I can post about Cincinnati kid in all the threads too..

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Status update (6/26/2021 3:33:26 PM)

I unpinned this as it is not important anymore. Eventually it will get pushed down.

Uxbridge -> RE: Status update (7/3/2021 5:59:38 AM)

We're holding a PBEM-start since I entertain the impression of an pending patch. Re-reading this thread makes me uncertain wether this was really the case. Will an official patch be released the coming week or should we start with the current version of the game?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Status update (7/3/2021 6:47:15 PM)

I will be working on one Sunday for next week.

Uxbridge -> RE: Status update (7/5/2021 6:40:39 AM)

I'll take that to mean that some change is set for the coming weeks. :-)

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Status update (7/5/2021 4:41:19 PM)

About 20 changes/fixes for each game with many overlapping of course.

The biggest issue was invisible raider fleets parked in invasion spots. Took about a day to think about all possible solutions.

This is what I did....

#1 Any invisible fleet next to an enemy will now become visible. If they were in fleet mode an interception occurs naturally. If they were in raider mode they become visible.
#2 Moving to a beach, coast, or landing zone occupied by an invisible fleet in raider mode forces them to retreat from that hex. You do stop 1 hex shy of it as there is no enemy/friendly naval stacking but they do retreat as part of the naval retreat rules and their fleet ID levels rise so they are easier to find. With intel this should not incentivize this kind of play. Raiders will ONLY retreat if they are on a beach, coast, or landing zone. They will not from an all water hex.

If someone runs intel pops out the raider they can be easily killed.

All this is the reason why i am moving to sea zones in WP2.

eskuche -> RE: Status update (7/5/2021 5:39:54 PM)

Sounds like a reasonable set of changes, thanks!
Play and counter-play available. I will say another reason to have raider mode next to friendly islands is to prevent what the enemy thinks is a blockade, e.g., next to Fiji & Co. on turn 1 and turn 2.

Uxbridge -> RE: Status update (7/5/2021 7:29:14 PM)

Sea zones the way it was in European Theatre of Operations–with a coastal hexrow between land and the sea zones–would definately make the naval system easier to grasp. There will of course be new issues to handle, such as aircraft range and so on, but the idea is promising.

As for the patch change regarding hidden naval units: if an invasion force run into a hidden enemy in the invasion hex, can an enemy in raider mode make that invading hex lose one movement point, depriving it of it's ability to invade?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Status update (7/10/2021 4:04:53 PM)

At the moment yes.
