GazBot -> PLayer to select new Capital if Capital Falls (7/2/2021 9:42:42 AM)

Hello,

Just like to suggest the player is presented the option to select a new city to make their new capital if they loose their current capital.

Just playing a game where one player has had their starting Capital captured.

The next turn, I then saw the capital had been moved to the next most vulnerable city which makes no sense, especially has far more sensible options well away from the front line are available.

I think any regime would move their replacement capital to a safe location - as opposed to a city that could be taken in the next 1-2 turns.....

Cheers

Gaz

Asking might add a delay of 1+ turns.

Maybe there is a option to mark a "Designated Replacement Capitol"? A case where we mark a city ahead of time, and it is prefered when setting up the new Capitol.

I kind of like this idea. Curious what happens, game wise, if a regime has no capital for a turn.

Also, if the player can pick the new city (which I completely agree with), it might make sense to but some rationality behind the decision, like perhaps the government will be less effective if moved to a city with poorer cultural adaption.

It would probably be easier to be able to build the Headquarters somewhere else, and upon completion the previous Headquarters to be automatically privatized and closed ?

Oouuh... I like this approach. Then it's not even related to a conquest. A player can move it at his/her own discretion.

If you're capital does fall and you haven't built another HQ, well, it takes however long it takes to get that next HQ built.

Still leaves me wondering what happens when a regime is without capital.

Currently it can't be without Capitol, unless it is also without cities. At which point it is defeated.

Some automatics are simply there so we never have to deal with certain scenarios [:D]

One game i played there was a friendly major regime on my border got steam rolled by another major regime. All it had left was perhaps 6-8 hexes left for its zone, no city at all. Yet it still existed and was still sharing tech with me. It definitely broke immersion. It had no units either. Perhaps its leaders where hiding out in a radio shack. Maybe this isn't suppose to happen and was just a bug?

Overall i like the idea of being able to designate another city as a Capital city. Perhaps it does take time to do so, and when things are looking grim knowing when to do that is key and also maybe having the resources to do so. I suppose you could also bomb the heck out of your former city once its vacated to deny the enemy use of it.
It still might have high entrenchment though. So perhaps putting forces in there afterwards to make use of that, although at the risk of getting surrounded. They would die as heroes of course.

It may be possible to have a "backup HQ" building. If a capital falls while it exists, the city with backup HQ automatically becomes the new capital and the leader losses in the capital would be significantly reduced or eliminated altogether - representing organized preparation for evacuating the capital - similar to what USSR did in 1941, moving government offices and industry to Urals when they expected Moscow to fall. Its existence should probably come with a BP/PP penalty just for maintenance - i.e. it's something you do when you expect you may need it, not build it "just in case".

I had the same issue.
Definitely feels like an oversight, no cities and no units should have the territory revert to Non-Aligned.

Last I heard, AI Majors that loose all cities start operating under "cityless minor" rules.
But it might have been changed to them just having no place to get resources from, so they could hunger.

All cities *and* units.

I also couldn't take those remaining hexes.
