This one is fairly easy as the US but took me a few tries to win as the Germans (attackers). Use the dead ground behind the house and in the woods but be really careful about the MG lines of fire because they will cause real problems for your close assaults. Keep your half-tracks at least 4 hexes from the bazookas unless you want to draw off the fire of that US squad. One thing that changed the battle to a win was the AI sent a strong US stack out into the open (on a street) to take out one of my pinned units. When it did I was able to focus all my fire on it and, even though my results were average, they were good enough to make the odds for close assaults achievable.

My basic strategy was to go over the top (look at the LOS for that killer HMG - it has a significant blind spot above the centre houses) and flank around the top to make the final assault on the HMG squads in the centre. Use a half-track to take that victory hex in the west.

Good going. I just played that based on reading your post and got a loss. I went north. Took the 1st objective and then moved through the woods to assault and take the 2nd objective. I was able to bring a lot of fire on the final objective in the south, Williams, on the final turn, but wasn't able to get close enough to assault. I nearly took him out with fire though. The US suffered 90% casualties to my 39%, and in the end the US just had a half squad and Williams left on that final objective. And I got 2 out of 3 objectives, but the verdict of the judges was DEFEAT with a final score of 179.

Oddly I had Jones come out of the building housing the first objective and move into the farmhouse adjacent to the woods on turn 1. I Had three stacks adjacent to him plus halftracks for fire support that I had moved around to the north to fire on the first objective and they took Jones out quickly. But I'm thinking maybe that cost me a turn in dealing with him that ended up buying the AI time to hold on for the win.

It is a challenge for the Axis.

This scenario is a fun and dynamic puzzle that favors heavily the defender. I was able to get a victory once, but I think it was due to just sheer luck. I have questions regarding the way the game system tries to recreate real tactical warfare. For instance, you cannot assault a given unit simultaneously from different angles, a very common tactic. Instead, the game forces you to pile a high stack of units next to the defending enemy, exposing them to horrendous casualties during the opponent's defensive phase before your assault. Victory conditions are way too draconian, either you win a major victory by conquering all the objectives or are totally defeated if you don't manage to do so. And then why a defending unit has seemingly unlimited chances to fire at moving enemy units but it gets only one chance to fire when these units remain next to it and static?
