YueJin -> Naval air stat (7/10/2021 10:36:23 PM)

I saw someone else mention this and thought I'd check it out. The naval air stat shown on the unit panel never increases like the other characteristics do.

This is a 1944 tech tactical naval air unit. It has 5 tactical and 5 naval air in the pop out panel which shows max stats, yet on the left panel showing current actual stats it has 3 tactical and 1 naval air.

Does increasing naval air tech actually do anything or is it a display bug only?

Based on my entire airforce taking out one ship in your stack at max recon a few turns ago, I'd say it's a bug. However, it's only not at parity with other stats SOME of the time. I haven't figured out when it changes, except that it tends to be higher on the enemy turn. [:@]

LBA does a billion damage to units in transports whilst it only scratches actual ships.

Needs attention!!!

Not sure I want to play WPP with this issue in the game, right now LBA is more about psychological damage lol.

I remember killing ONE merchant marine per turn with LBA raiding convoys. If WITP didn't take years to play I'd go play that instead.

Weird...my transports rarely get attacked by LBA...Just have to be very cautious about your movement.

They should get decimated by air. They are slow, small and there are a lot of them with no defense.
IF you do not have support ships they are sitting ducks to get sunk.

The longer range bombers are more level bombers that didn't hit crap.

Now the short range dive bombers, that's different.

Oh so the tactical bombers are carrying bombs, and not torpedoes. That would be why they are lousy at killing ships.

Are you saying here that only ground attack groups (and tactical groups?) have the full naval air value and that strategic bombing groups have a penalty?

Or are you saying the advancement?

Level altitude bombing of any type of ships sucked in this era .... however, later in the war, the allies developed low level "bounce" bombing which was much more effective .....

I'm not talking about the historical accuracy. Purely game mechanics. This also applies to close support aircraft as seen in the screenshot below where air combat and naval air should have the same ratings but in the actual stats panel it's 4-2 so has nothing to do with different types of aircraft/loadout.

Yep, at this point naval advancement seems not very useful. I sometimes drop my tac/ground groups onto strategic advancement for the extra range (only really affordable as the Americans). This coupled with the '44-45 no chance in advancement bug makes naval air a...dubious investment.

PS. you have a lot of oil. [:D] I don't think there is ever a game where going for the MM choking strategy will work in the game's current state.

stjeand -> RE: Naval air stat (7/12/2021 4:48:15 PM)

I don't remember the panel the left ever displaying the "correct" values associated with advancement.

I always have had to click on the hourglass to see the updated value.

I was under the impression that the left base panel shows the base level of the unit without the advancement.

eskuche -> RE: Naval air stat (7/12/2021 5:15:38 PM)

No, the left panel shows the final scores after accounting for experience, effectiveness, and advancement (but before terrain modifiers). They are the same values as on the unit card on-map. So unless those are wrong, too, the whole system is bugged. YueJin can confirm that I had a turn with about 20 naval strikes sinking one ship in late '43 (with '44 naval advancement).
