76mm -> RE: 504 Gateway Time-out (7/14/2021 2:17:01 PM)

I forget if this is the same problem, but I've had chronic problems with the matrix (and only the matrix) forums for years. to fix it, usually I go to the little lock symbol on the far right of the address bar in Chrome, then delete all of the cookies from the Matrix site--usually there are more than 60 (!?) from Matrix. I assume that the cookies accumulate over time, and at some point they either choke the browser or the matrix server. either way, this is the only site that I've ever had this problem with, and it has been like this for years.

It can't be this. I reinstalled my Windows 10-soon-to-become-11 system a few weeks ago... and that has been happening to me... too little time for hundreds of cookies to accumulate. I tell you it's that evil Matrix! [sm=00000622.gif]

It must be another error that I only encounter on Matrix's site then...I forget what the error number is though, because I haven't had it in several weeks now.

Platoonist -> RE: 504 Gateway Time-out (7/14/2021 10:52:01 PM)

Yeah, I've been seeing this same Gateway 504 issue crop up on multiple devices whenever accessing this forum. It's annoying bordering on irksome.

ncc1701e -> RE: 504 Gateway Time-out (7/15/2021 5:26:15 AM)

I have it on my iPhone too...

Curtis Lemay -> RE: 504 Gateway Time-out (7/15/2021 2:38:05 PM)

You know, I never knew what people were talking about on this issue, since I had never seen it. I did get the board to hang up, though. But, when that happened, I just killed the browser and started over - always worked right on the second try.

Then, one day, recently, I decided to wait just to see what would happen. That's when, eventually, I finally got the above error.

So...why would anyone wait that long? When the browser hangs up, just exit and try again.

och silly us, should have realised there was an easily available ready solution [;)]

IainMcNeil -> RE: 504 Gateway Time-out (7/15/2021 4:16:40 PM)

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for those having problems. The forums are so old they're written in a language that no longer exists and been modified so many times so held together with sticky tape, which means we regularly get something falling apart. We have finally found time to upgrade it and we're in the process of moving to PHPBB. It is a big job so I don't want to promise a completion date but it is in progress.

Having been a techie throughout a 40+ year career, stuff like this cracks me up.

The sad part that is since retiring, I've forgotten way too much. I guess I kinda 'flushed the buffers', when I got out. So to speak, anyway.

JamesM -> RE: 504 Gateway Time-out (7/16/2021 2:31:52 AM)

I was getting the same issue. However, since I cleaned out all my temp files in my computer and temporary internet files and cookies I no longer get this error.

springel -> RE: 504 Gateway Time-out (7/16/2021 12:11:23 PM)

According to the url site is written in classic asp, that is Visual Basic as scripting language.

Zorch -> RE: 504 Gateway Time-out (7/17/2021 2:25:51 PM)

I don't get 504 errors: instead the site just hangs. Does this happen to anyone else?

mainsworthy -> RE: 504 Gateway Time-out (7/17/2021 2:58:51 PM)

just as a point of interest, it might be matrix is getting more popular and more busy, so less gateways to go round at peak viewerd,
