WEGO World War 2 is the new-branding of our game system. Desert War 1940-42 was our entry into this game space but it was a hobby start that found its future vision through the lens of Matrix Games. The game system--and our thoughts about it--have since matured. This standardized WEGO game system focuses exclusively on operational combat as experienced during the Second World War. Stalingrad 1942 is the first game in the WEGOWW2 game series. As such, it sets the standard for future games in the series. From the deserts of North Africa, across the steppes of Russia and the bocage of Normandy to the North German Plain--WEGOWW2 will take you there. WEGOWW2 is the only multi-game operational WEGO game system on the market. We hope you will join us on this game journey.

So does this make Desert War obsolete?
Will a new WEGO WW2 replace it?

bcgames -> RE: WEGO World War 2 (7/19/2021 1:38:45 AM)

Desert War will be obsolete when it is replaced sometime after the next decade has passed. The next three games after Stalingrad all take place in Northern Europe...then back to Russia. Desert War II will only happen if we have a solid implementation of the Pasta Rule.

Really enjoying Deseret War - looking forward to additional WEGO titles!

Glad to hear it. It'll be a cold day in Hell when we stop supporting Desert War. But we have new paths forward...a step at a time.

WEGO "Living Rules".

Boardgamers who frequent the internet are probably long aware of the idea of "living rules". In my view, computer wargames need an equivalent capability. However, the overhead/time required to go from a text-based set of living rules to a "audio/visual-based" set of living rules is daunting--updating video and audio is time intensive. It's time I don't have; I'd rather be building scenarios.

So--I am experimenting with text-to-speech software to move in the direction of "living rules" for computer wargames. It sounds like this:

https://youtu.be/KI_5bzPiNe4

On the bright side, it is easy for me. The software is a "fast talker" and there are zero "...Uh...Ums". I can quickly update the content when things change and I can also translate the content to multiple languages. On the downside? It's a computer-generated voice. Wife sez it is boring (did the big "ho-hum" to bury the dagger deep). I can't argue with that. Should I pursue this avenue or ditch it? What say you?

bcgames -> RE: WEGO World War 2 (8/2/2021 6:03:46 AM)

If I can use text-to-speech, I have more time for information that I think the player can use. But...maybe blabber-jabber in real voice is more important. What do your eyes and ears need to understand the intended message? What sub-standards of presentation will your brain accept if there is a small chance of gaining new knowledge about Desert War game play?

I only listen to the first few seconds but overall it’s really good, the computer voice was much better than I anticipated. So I say go forward. As long as the voice sounds like that I can deal with it.

OK. Thanks. On with the show...

Saw the Coming Soon announcement .... really looking forward to this. I won't be waiting to purchase like I did with Desert War!

Good to see developement of WEGO systems, I wish you good fortune with this project and including this aspect in the brand name seems a good idea!

Are there any plans for division-level spin-offs covering entire fronts? WEGO Operation Barbarossa on division scale would be an instant buy for me.

At this point in time--no. However, given the multiple-scale approach we took in developing Stalingrad, I think there is a strong affinity between this game engine and a division-level approach to the war between Germany and the Soviet Union. I might try something small--like Army Group North--to assess the potential of a division-level game using our game engine. Off the top of my head, we would need to add rail movement...maybe naval port activities...not sure that much more is needed for a division-level game.

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: WEGO World War 2 (8/15/2021 7:04:21 AM)

Thanks for your replies. I think your user feedback collection and incorporation is well dome.

For division-level games of the Eastern Front, it is in particular important to have a good and somewhat detailed logistics system (rail conversion, truck/horse/train capacity) etc. I am not familiar with the logistic rules of this game.

bcgames -> RE: WEGO World War 2 (8/18/2021 2:42:55 AM)

Logistics are central to a division level game.

My friend and I played a number of scenarios in Desert War by PBEM and enjoyed it. I think that land battles in the Pacific are under represented when it comes to wargames, board and computer. Maybe they are difficult to simulate given the importance of naval operations in their outcomes. For example Guadalcanal. The battles for Port Moresby although not as well known would also be interesting. Compare this to how many games have been released on the Battle of the Bulge and Market Garden.

blackcloud6 -> RE: WEGO World War 2 (8/29/2021 10:12:11 PM)

Thanks for expanding this system into other games; I'm looking forward to Stalingrad. It was your announcement of the Stalingrad game that motivated me to look into Desert War which was just sitting on my hard drive unplayed. I'm now into Turn 11 of the Operazione E scenario and I'm having a blast.

There are a few I can think off that to my knowledge have never been simulated on an appropriate level. Battle for the Philippines- 130,000 Japanese vs 151,000 US and Filipino troops. Then in 1944 the US invasion so that MacArthur could fulfill his promise.

The Philippines campaign (1941–1942), the conquest of the Philippine Islands by the Japanese Empire during World War II in December '41 – May '42, including these significant battles:

The Battle of Bataan on Luzon Island
The Battle of Corregidor of 1942 on Corregidor Island in Manila Bay
Japanese invasion of Davao

The Philippines campaign (1944–1945), the long American and Filipino land, sea, and aviation campaigns of October '44 through August '45. Major battles in this campaign included:

Battle of the Philippine Sea
Raid at Cabanatuan
The U.S. Army's and Philippine Army's Battle of Leyte (October – November '44)
The Naval Battle of Leyte Gulf (October '44)
The Naval Battle of Surigao Strait (October '44)
The Naval Battle off Samar (October '44)
Battle of Bessang Pass
The U.S. Army's and Philippine Army's Battle of Mindoro
The U.S. Army's Invasion of Lingayen Gulf (January '45)
Battle of Samar
The U.S. Army's and Philippine Army's Battle of Luzon
The Battle of Corregidor (1945) on Corregidor Island in Manila Bay
The U.S. Army's and Philippine Army's Battle of Manila (1945)
The U.S. Army's and Philippine Army's Battle of the Visayas
The U.S. Army's and Philippine Army's Battle of Mindanao
Battle of Davao
Battle of Mindoro
Invasion of Palawan

battle for New Guinea

This got me to finally learn Desert War...and I am really enjoying it, now that I feel I have cleared the learning curve. There is quite a bit of depth to this system...kudos!

demyansk -> RE: WEGO World War 2 (11/24/2021 9:45:06 PM)

I am thinking of getting this game, still easy to get into?
