Hi, I'm trying this scenario from the community pack. The side briefing says :
quote:

MISSION
Locate and identify the Soviet submarine in your area. If the Soviet submarine violates the exclusion zone marked on your tactical map, force it to surface and surrender. If the Soviet submarine attempts to flee, or if your forces are attacked, you may assume the submarine has been placed in British waters with hostile intent and you may consider yourself free to sink it.

I have a few questions:
1- I can't see the exclusion zone on the map. Any idea ?
2- All Soviet contacts, sub and ships are flagged as friendy (green) beside being very close from Scotland border (sub is at 15nm from Scotland coast). Should I manually mark them as unfriendly ?
3- How can I "force the sub to surface and surrender" as stated in the side briefing?

Thanks.

ATTN: Commanding Officer, HMS York.

INTEL/SITREP

Soviet activity in the North Sea has increased in recent weeks. Whitehall and Washington are both increasingly concerned that the Soviets are planning to attack Europe.

A Soviet submarine has been spotted in the waters northeast of RAF Leuchars.

ENEMY FORCES

Unknown. At least one submarine and one Soviet cruiser are known to be in your area, but additional details are currently not available.

FRIENDLY FORCES

Available forces in your region are York (D 98), Brazen (F 91), and the American submarine Dallas (SSN 700), which is chopped to your command.

Aircraft at RAF Leuchars are available to assist you.

EXECUTION

Avoid initiating a confrontation with Soviet forces in international waters. If your forces are attacked, you are free to return fire.

COMMAND AND SIGNAL

Command: York

Signal: EMCON State C (Unrestricted Emissions)

Good luck. God save the Queen.

Maybe a save could help ?

The exclusion zone's boundaries are marked by four locked reference points. To view the zone, on the menu bar click on Missions + Ref Points. You will see Exclusion Zones at the bottom of the pull down menu with an arrow on the right side. Hovering over it with your mouse will open a fly-out menu and clicking on Edit Existing will open a window that shows the exclusion zone. The zone's boundaries will also be shown on the map with red lines.

The Soviet submarine will automatically be declared hostile once it crosses the exclusion zone boundary.

It may come to the surface or near to it at some point, but I've never had it 'surrender'. Once it is inside the exclusion zone, you are free to sink it.

Oh I see. The exclusion zone is very close from main land Scotland ! I thought it would be much farther away. I didn't know I can see the exclusion zone from the Mission menu ! Thanks !
And yes, after a while the sub automatically became marked as hostile.
So now I know how to play this scenario. It's all clear now (but the surrendering thing).
Very useful, thank you.

Yeah this isn't an exclusion zone in the strictest Command sense, it's really reference for the player to say: "Soviet vessels forbidden to enter this area, engage if they do".

Green is not 'Friendly', it's 'Neutral', but yeah, my rule of thumb is that if it's from a nation that should be 'Unfriendly', then mark it as such.

It's a nuclear powered sub, so this will not be happening. [:D]

One time when I played this a long time ago (back in the pre-CMO days) there was a bug with the scenario where the Soviet sub actually brazenly raced at flank speed through the exclusion zone on the surface, causing me much bewilderment. It very much reminded me of this classic Das Boot scene:
