Has anyone else see the Final Fantasy movie yet? It is absolutely amazing! I've always been into computers and their capabilities, and went to see how far digital animation has come. Well, it has come a LONG way! The characters are almost perfect in how they duplicate human actions. (One of the few failings I noticed was where Aki almost cries. They need to work on chin trembling, etc.) If you want to see the future, see this movie. It won't be long before any situation can be computer generated and we won't be able to tell the difference from the real thing. Personally, I find this chilling, as the news media will be able to put anything in front of us without our knowing whether it has really happened, or is a simulation for some purpose. The old saying about "believe none of what you read and only half of what you see" is taking on a whole new meaning. [ July 14, 2001: Message edited by: Warrior ]

Took my 13yr old son to it yesterday, thoroughly amazing and breathtaking. I was truely impressed with the voice overs and movement fluidness. The future is here know and here to stay.

Might have interesting applications for doing historical films without the need to stitch in wrethedly inaccurate canned footage. But when you consider 8 maybe 9 out of 10 people on this planet believe what they see (without questioning it). 1984 was never that potentially scary. And they will just keep refining the process till you cant tell the difference. If used responsibly it will be an incredible tool for amusement. But you dont reeeeally think it will always be used responsibly do you? Its bad enough most people that will not like Final Fantasy, will likely say that because they have been spoiled by grotesquely inaccurate over blown special effects already. Its why my war movie collection has practically no modern films in it. I get a bit offended by gasoline soaked explosions eventually. Hopefully us wargamers can get to see some cool subjects in our genre in the future.

There is already computer generated Movie Stars in Japan. Complete with fan clubs and large followings. :rolleyes:

Greetings and salutations, Toy Story. Shrek. A Bug's Life. Final Fantasy. The list continues to grow. It seems to me that pretty soon we won't need actors any more. We'll just need their voices. But I suppose a few "purists" will remain. ;)
