Question: is there any advantage to disbanding units right before their scheduled withdrawal? For example, the split US 17th, 36th, 77th, and 178th artillery battalions are withdrawn in Turn 32 of the 1943-45 Campaign, and because they've been in the game from Turn 1, they usually are the most Experienced US artillery units right before their withdrawal. If I disband them in turn 31, do those very experienced elements get put back in the pool and then drawn into existing or incoming units as they replace losses?

I'm not trying to be (too) gamey, I'm really asking in this particular case.

are you really able to disband them?
AFAIR this should have been blocked if they are scheduled for withdrawal

Only with a unit merge you would be able to keep some of the gained experience

Dennis,

Thanks for replying. There's no Merge command available on those units, only the Disband option. But I guess it doesn't matter anyway if there's no benefit to disbanding them.
