1nutworld -> Database downloading (8/14/2021 3:24:39 PM)

For some reason I am unable to download the latest DB3000 entry from the website below. I'm curious if anyone else is having a similar issue?

I left click on the link and the page reloads but no download or save file as option appears.

It's working for me. I'm using FireFox and have the setting set up to always ask me where to place the files instead of automatically doing it for me. Perhaps your browser is setup to automatically place downloads in a specific folder?

A direct link to the Images for DB3000 is this, you could try it directly to see if it works for you.

It also worked for me.

Doesn't work for me now either. Never noticed the link contains slitherine before either.

I have chrome and it was working at least a couple months ago.

I don't have Chrome, but I have tested it with IE11, Edge and FireFox and it works okay with those browsers.

I'm on Chrome myself and have been able to DL previously as well, but not today. Good thing I have Firefox as a backup and will DL using that browser.

Thanks everyone! I was able to get the download completed, but by using a different browser.

I had a similar problem downloading the DB image and description files in Chrome and was able to get around it by pointing to the file link, right clicking, and selecting "Save link as ..." from the pop-up menu. Chrome arrears to interpret these links as webpages to be displayed rather than files to be downloaded.

OldSarge -> RE: Database downloading (8/14/2021 7:16:06 PM)

I found some info for Chrome users that might be the problem. The file download is from an HTTP link while the main CMO page is an HTTPS link.

If you have upgraded the Google Chrome browser to version 86, released on October 6, 2020, you may have noticed that some file downloads don't work anymore in the browser. You click on the download link and nothing happens. Chrome does not display a notification and there is virtually no information that explains what is happening, or not happening in this case. A check of the downloads page of the browser does not even list the file.

The fact that nothing happens can be confusing to users, as the expectation is that the download should begin after clicking on the link.

Google announced in early 2020 that it will block content that is served via the insecure HTTP if the originating page uses HTTPS. The company decided to roll out the feature gradually by adding more and more file types to the blocklist. Executable files, e.g. .exe or .bat, are the first file types to be blocked, and the release of Chrome 86 put that block in place. Future versions of Chrome will block non-executable file types such as PDF, ZIP, or JPG files.

Chrome and most Chromium-based browsers display a notification in the download panel when a download is blocked because it is offered via HTTP. Users of the browser may discard the download or select the arrow-icon to select keep. Selecting keep saves the file to the download directory of the browser.
Additional information

There is only one option to find out if a download is blocked in Chrome, or if it is an unrelated problem, e.g. a server issue.

Select Menu > More Tools > Developer Tools.
Switch to Console in the Developer Tools interface.
Chrome displays a red "Mixed Content" warning for downloads that it blocks. It displays "The site at HTTPS* was loaded over a secure connection, but the file at HTTP* was redirected through an insecure connection. This file should be served over HTTPS. This download has been blocked.

Yea, Chrome security feature often blocks those downloads. Save as... works well but you'll have often Allow them.

Can you try again now?

Sorry Dimitris, I just saw this post this morning, after being mostly without internet for the last 10 days or so.

In my case, using Chrome, I was able to get all the links to give me the opportunity to download and save!

So no need to use different browser, such as Firefox, as of Aug 27.

Thanks to the crew for fixing!! [sm=00000436.gif]
