To be more correct, he did not save them - he just did not kill them. But that is a good story.

Be that as it may, it's still pretty amazing that he was able to re-meet and interact with them as direct result of their mother's courage and ultimately his decision to hold his fire. A decision that ripples through the decades and affects dozens if not hundreds of lives. Makes you think.
