The problem I see is that the ones he gets in 43 will not exit training until 44. I am asking because I am thinking about a PBEM only mod of my own.

You can put enough pilots in TRACOM to increase their experience and speed up their training. Get enough TRACOM pilots and it can really mess things up as far as graduating them early and increasing their experience too high . . .

IJN pilots do need to be carefully managed because of their relatively low replacement rate. I don’t see the replacement rate as a problem, just as a constraint that needs to be managed.

So it is actually historic that the large increase in pilot training starts in 1943 but does not really culminate until 1944.

In my case, doing full training with literally every air unit available (means to be spared from frontline service) my replacement pools run dry in late 42. But by then I've already trained several thousand pilots I guess and am only filling up fighter training units with the replacement pilots I get each month. Starting with 1/43 everything is getting better again and by mid 43 you get more pilots than you can train if you aim at 70/70. So if one isn't using every available air unit for training you only run dry of pilots as soon as you are forced to use < 70/70 pilots because those train faster. He can most likely fill up all vacant slots in very early 43 so it won't take until 44 to see these pilots going back into the trained pilot pool.

I have to say that I was surprised to find Tulagi with no forts and the two units there not prepped.

I would put her in an escort TF with as many ships as possible if she can't dock. It also looks like sub laid mines so they may have just been put there. She may unload everything that does not get destroyed by the fires.

The DD that hit a mine has put out the fires and will be in pierside repair for a good while Continuing to eliminate the enemy at Tulagi The first SeaBee unit is unloading at Tulagi All the mines at Tulagi have been swept.

I suspect the troops would be landed but without supplies or non-squad devices.

It seems that they landed before she sank. The unit has only a couple of missing devices.

November 6, 1942 Not much, mopping up at Tulagi, unloading a SeaBee at Rekata Bay, loading 2 EAB and 1 CB for Tulagi, loading a CB for Munda. Munda and Rekata Bay have never changed ownership. Russel Islands has a port of 1 and an airfield of 1. Thousand Ship Bay is building slowly, only a NZ Brigade there. Woodlark Island is at 3 port and 4 airfield, still building. Kirwina Island is at 1 port and 1 airfield, still building, but slowly. Port Moresby is maxed out at 5 port and 9 airfield Milne Bay is at 5 port and 7 airfield Adak Island is at 6 port and 6 airfield Bases on the India and Burma border are building, need supply to the forward bases that are on minor roads or no roads. This scenario from Andy Mac has lots of little dot bases in Burma. It is scenario 8 modified with our Variants.
