OCTOBER 8, 1943 Once again there are no U-Boat raids. Rain in NW Europe means there will probably not be any attacks here now until March at the earliest. But a cold turn in the Arctic zone allows the Russians to make another attempt to capture Moscow. Now that the Rules have changed I employ what is now one of the most effective methods of destroying an enemy unit. This is to make numerous low odds (2-1 or less) attacks against a unit until you have worn it down in strength and then to attack it with fresh units at high odds. In this case I made 8 low odds attacks on the armour in Moscow using my units circled in blue and then attacked it with fresh units at 9-1 odds. The result was an overrun panzer. This tactic does not always work. Sometimes the unit will retreat even at low odds, though if set to Hold (as I am sure this panzer was) this is unlikely. At other times the unit will make a "saving throw' against being overrun and simply retreat instead. Even when this tactic works it usually results in several beat up friendly units (as evidenced by my blue circled units). Stjeand has complained that I seem to be luckier with this tactic than him and he is probably right (at least so far). In any event, Moscow is once again in Soviet hands. Now I just have to hope for bad weather next turn. [image]local://upfiles/14737/CB0D97B8FD284195BDD5EF77FCC6C690.jpg[/image]
