I know that in English they call it "Bishop" because the top of the figure looks like a bishop's hat. But may not be the case in German.

Hi Gallo Rojo,
a bishop is a 'Bischof' or a 'Ordinarius' (very clerical off course) outside of chess.
At chess I never heard anything else than 'Läufer' for the bishop here in Germany.
