Turn 1
June 22, 1941

We’ve agreed to only open turn 1 pockets with combat.
Appears an unnecessary concession as the Axis didn’t attempt a Lvov pocket, and the AGN and AGC moves appear unassailable.
We expand to fill the walls of the pockets and re-assign units to corps HQs inside the pockets.
Relocate the Army HQs and Front inside the pockets. 4 of 8 generals killed!
8th, 11th and 27th Army are all relocated under Northwest Front.
8th Army commander Sobennikov KIA
3rd and 10th Army, as well as Western Front are relocated.
10th Army commander Golubev and Western Front head Pavlov are also KIA.
6th Army and 26th Army, Southwestern Front, is relocated and Kostenko (26th) is KIA.

50% of HQ pocket relocations resulted in a dead general.

Overall strategic map at the end of the turn.

It was our agreement to not break any turn 1 pockets just to not disrupt the historical momentum of the initial week. It proved to be an unnecessary concession as the pockets were sound, athough the units inside were re-arranged to hold space and take the defensive terrain. I hug enemy units in the hopes it reduces their fatigue recovery.

In the Baltics we take up forward positions so that we can cut off any over eager German mech that attempt to bypass them before the infantry can follow up.

The Dnepr is screened under the mistaken assumption the Germans wouldn't have the MP to forces a crossing on week two against ZoC.

In the South the Germans do not launch the Lvov Pocket (in contrast to my AAR with Q-Ball).
Having suffered those losses out of the gate in that other campaign, and then successive encirclements trying to cut off the German mech ranging on the steppes, I will try something different in this game.
I will send many of the battered formations of Southwestern Front and Southern Front to the Reserve Box for refit and re-deployment.
The Road to Leningrad we consider the most critical manpower area to protect from the outset, and want to make use of the increased favorable terrain. In the south we will fall back toward the Dnepr, with an aim of drawing German mech into the steppes and being able to hold as much of Crimea as possible through the winter.
Unable to move Southern Front this turn.

We leave almost all (maybe all?) of the initial fortification zones in place to help cobweb advancing formations.
In the north we place fortifications along the existing entrenchments on the Narva river and units to help maintain those values while the FZs refit.
Additional fortifications raised in the rear for the worst case scenario where the siege of Leningrad comes to pass.

I am still trying to figure out what I'm doing in the air war. For pure ease of time and interface use I send what I can to reserve on the first turn, and relocate the rest send them to reserve this turn. Not exactly sure how they will come available, but we intend to put them back on the map ASAP. The base size restrictions and squadron resizing will lead to some micro, but I want to try and use the air force as soon as I can.

In front of Smolensk the panzers pause before making contact with Western Front's defensive lines.

STAVKA orders reserve tank divisions attached to Orel MD to make contact with the isolated rifle division.

30th Army, commanded by Tolbukhin under Western Front, gathers a large force of reserves to hit the now cut off 12th Pzr Div. We actually expected to force a rout, but they retreated in good order 1 hex, although losing a significant number of Czech tank chassis .

With Mogilev broken open STAVKA scrambles to put together a line the entire stretch from Bryansk to Gomel.

Against AGS Southwestern Front is largely behind the Dnepr now. Kjarkov MD has taken up reserve positions to help dig in behind the river.
Southern Front can barely scrape together a screen against the Axis allies.

In Crimea a series of fortifications are built. We dismantle the indefensible lines that Southern Front doesn't even have the forces to man so we have a head start on the requisite armaments.
We intend to leverage the new map's ports in this region to try and hold as much of Crimea into the winter as possible.
