fatgreta1066 -> Can anyone explain this mission behavior? (9/13/2021 6:31:18 PM)

This screenshot is from the Extreme Prejudice scenario of Desert Storm. The aircraft in question were stationed on a carrier in the gulf. I created a land strike mission with three targets, the as seen SA-2, and grouped in the Airbase are a radar and another SA-2. The only parameters I altered in the mission editor are the enforce flight size box, I turned that off. The strike aircraft (and their escorts) took off and flew basically the course I drew in blue. There is no indication that they are going to turn and strike their targets. The yellow lines are drawn by the game showing targeting vectors. The flight has as of this typing continued on a straight line across Western Iraq without making an attack run. What am I doing wrong?

Not shown on the picture - at least the pictured SAM was emitting the entire time. The strike aircraft are loaded with 2x Shrike ARM and 6x cluster bombs, so should be able to attack an emitting or not emitting target?

The units flew to the coast of Israel, then flew south along the edge of Saudi Arabia. Half way between Mecca and Kind Khalid AB they cut north to link up with a tanker. Then they flew directly into Central Iran. That's where we're at so far.

I then assigned another bunch of AC, a flight of fighter escorts, a flight of HARM armed F16 and a flight of Maverick armed F16. They all joined up in the middle of the Persian gulf and flew around in circles. I then switched the ARM armed aircraft to escorts, wondering if that was the problem. But still, even the Maverick armed F16s just flew around in circles.

Finally, I unassigned the original 3 A-6 with Shrike and gave them an attack target, auto order, they flew over the SA-2 and just flew around showing 'engaged offensive' but not making any attacks.

Do I have to manually launch ARM weapons or something? What about the Mavericks and the cluster bombs?

It might be easier if you posted a save so anyone trying to help can look at it without having to guess at the hundreds of potential settings.

Thannks that's helpful. I'm also uploading a screenshot that I didn't notice that could be the problem, related to conflicts of doctrine, but I am not sure why they conflict.

So there is a test save file here that shows the mission (SEAD in mission editor) having launched. Note that I had to manually order the escorting jamming aircraft to launch, they were not doing that on their own.

Thanks for any help.

Chris

PS - I can't upload the save file directly, this is a link to a dropbox folder it's in.

You just have to zip it to upload it. There are a couple stickied posts in the tech support forum that explains how to ask for help and what is needed.

Something is messed up with that particular mission. I killed it and created an exact duplicate. The A-6s immediately headed for the targets and winchestered all their HARMs at the SA-2s. They then RTBed. One thing I did that was different is I had to take land attack ROEs off of HOLD. This seems to be the default set by the designer.

I'll play with it a little more. Did you change anything mid-mission? Like targets or anything like that.

That might be the problem. I set that to hold to keep the ships from firing their tomahawks at random land targets as soon as the game started. I'll try that mission with that off the doctrine and see what happens. Thanks for checking for me.

Also, thanks to all for reminding me to zip save files, I'll remember that now.
