rhinobones -> Der Deutsch-Französischer Krieg RB01 (9/23/2021 3:35:36 AM)

Attached is my TOAW IV update of the scenario Der Deutsch-Französischer Krieg. No substantive changes have been made to scenario mechanics. My changes are primarily to graphics, Advanced Rules presets and Advanced Game Options.

Although PBM is available, the author’s primary intent was to build a period scenario optimized for solitaire play, i.e. played against the PO opponent. As such, it will provide the player with a worthy opponent.

Note, attempts to contact the original author received no response.

Portion of the initial German attack into France. French units have the darker blue color.

Thanks.

Thank you rhinobones.

After several incompetent attempts I seem to have got it working.

I put the files you indicate in the sub folders of c:\documents not those of C:\Matrix Games\The Operational Art Of War IV\

This is the path I use.

Thanks for the update of a period I do not know much about. Great job.

Ironically, last week I downloaded the previouus edition and started playing. BTW is a Joe Bowers the original author?

Lastly, I am confused by:
"The German player must use the rail network. The capture of key locations opens rail segments.
The segments are as follows: Buchy to south of Verdun..."
Does this mean the Germans can move only by rail? What happens on the map when they capture key location? Do they get a boost in RR transport?

Thanks again for your work.

Sometimes it’s nice to take a break from the WW II drama. Hope there are others such as yourself who enjoy a good period conflict.

I have no idea of who the original author is.

As for the rails, nothing visually happens when a key rail segment is captured. Rail capacity and possibly supply increase when point paying forts are captured, but these effects happen behind the scenes. I believe the author’s use of the term “segment” is only meant to describe point-to-point on the rail lines such as between two nodes. In my experience the Germans do not necessarily move units via rail but do need the rails to supply the front lines.

Regards

Here is an account of the Franco German War which emphasises the importance of railways.
