dontra85 -> pilot replacements (10/4/2021 2:10:18 AM)

Several years ago i got on here and complained that i couldnt understand why anyone would place the best pilots in the training command since the quality of the pilots still went down as the war progressed. The reply was that the rate of pilot production was expedited. Well in my current game i decided to save my best pilots for the end of the war so every month i cull those pilots capable and put them into the training command. It is now 7/43 and my training command has 373 naval pilots and 173 army pilots. The experience of my new naval pilots is 49 and my army pilots is 36. Although they both went down initially it appears that with sufficient qualified trained pilots the new pilots will increase. I just dont know when it started to rise. I also still get new pilots being progressed through the training faster but not at a uniform rate. some months is less than 10 other months over 100. By the way it is scenario 1 and the starting new pilot experience level is 35 i believe.

You might get more responds in the main AE forum. But what side are you playing? If Japan, from my limited experience with Japan, I would let the fighter pilots have there way with the Allies for a month or two and then start moving them to the training command. In the mean time I setup on map training squadrons wherever I could afford too. Also I believe that moving the pilots over in groups of ten for the training command for each type was best. Someone will post soon to add to this....GP

Pilot training is one of the many "games within the game" which really sets WITP-AE apart. It's an aspect I particularly enjoy. I put a lot of time into it. Rotating pilots, watching skill levels coming out of flight school, maximizing on map training squadrons, cross training, leveraging 2nd line units as interim training points, focusing on getting truely combat ready pilots into the most critical/highly engaged squadrons.

I have seen various posts in the past which reinforce:

- Sets of "10" are important to get TRACOM benefits, not 9, 10 pilots of a type give you benefit.
- There has been some discussion in the past if it is just the first 10 or each set of 10 that give you benefit. Since I use TRACOM as a "reserve" of good pilots the point is mote to me, like you I'll have dozens in TRACOM, deploying them as needed to reinforce new squadrons, increase effectiveness at key points in time, critical battles, etc... As an allied player it just continues to stack up over time. For IJ you'll definitely hit a peak late(r) in the war, then start dropping...rapidly.
- Because I like realism...I also try to rotate pilots out after +1000 missions, especially as Allies. IJ, as IRL just don't get a chance to catch a break. ("sustained" individual pilot, ship crew, and land unit fatigue is something I'd really like to see modeled better in any future update)

Additionally I'll place one highly qualified pilot into my training groups, along with a high leadership/inspirational squadron leader, to help accelerate progress. I don't think I've seen consensus this helps but speculation was raising the average did increase training speed...and to me it reflects a level of realism that I like, nothing better than a mentor who's been there to help the lads along.

One of these days I keep thinking I'll do a sandbox test on pilot management...but a part of me just doesn't want to break down the coded results to facts and just play it like it feels right [:D]. The search/ASW game within the game is the same way...but a different topic entirely.

Tracom is broken. Its not meant to increase the base training level, it crept into the code somewhere in a late patch and support ended before it was discovered. There's a thread in the Tech Support sub-forum. I look later and see if I can find it.

Here's one thread.

There's a least one other that's more involved, I'll see if I can find it.

quote:

Correct.

TRACOM does not improve the graduating experience level of pilots beyond their national average. But ...

Pilots can graduate below the average national experience level. Having experten in TRACOM, in addition to possibly accelerating pilots through the 12 month training course, can limit the degree of graduating below the national average.

Here's post by Alfred in another thread.

Still searching...

I'll be back.[:D]

Here's another, but it doesn't get to topic until about half down page 3.

I know there's a more detailed discussion, but can't find it for now. But from above you should get the point.

But the more highly qualified pilots in training command should increase the quality of the trained pilots.
