In the late 90's there was an internet

site whose discussion forums were home

for many wargamers. It was called "CD" something or

another but I do not recall the exact name.

Does anyone remember the exact name for that place?

Used to write wargame reviews for CD Mag around then. Not strictly a wargame site but covered a lot of wargames. Sadly defunct now.

Thanks! CDmag is definitely the site I was

thinking about. I wanted to look

it up in waybackmachine to take

a sentimental peek at what things

were like back then.

Things were a lot better. But then the past always is in retrospect.

Trust me, 1980’s without smart phones for kids was much better.

Read "The General" magazine occasionally back then, if I had any money & there was a Squad Leader scenario included that looked good. Also, Victory Games US Civil War, Conquistador, Circus Maximus, 1776, Pax Romana come to mind.

Don’t forget the “Fleet Series”. Sixth Fleet updated with the more refined rules of Second Fleet remains one of the best war games ever.

In the late 90s, the two biggest wargaming sites were The Gamers Net (which is gone, but some of the folks from TGN founded Matrix Games) and The Wargamer (which is still around, though under completely different management).

I looked at the Gone Gold site almost daily. It tended to have news about coming games before other sites. Hard to believe the late 90s is now more than two decades in the rear view mirror.

Gamesdomain was another great site. They did reviews without giving a final vote. Some games got a Silver Medal and really few a Gold Medal. The really bad ones got the “Stinker” badge of shame. It was my reference around 1998-99.

Youth these days, complaining about DLC. In my youth we had to go all the way to town to buy equivalent of DLC from computer store on CD or floppy disk [:-]

The Wargamer was CDmag's main competitor back then. One of their writers even plagiarized one of my CD mag reviews! They are under new management and I have two suggestions for them: 1. Change the name or actually cover wargames. 2. Ditch the staff portraits. They aren't helping.

I used to love wargamer but now not real any reviews of computer games, just miniatures

Here's what they looked like in 1999:

That certainly brings back some memories...
