And here I hoped we still had time, well I guess it's time to figure out how to run WITPAE on my Linux machine....

Though technically we still have time until 2025.

I know nothing about Windows 11 but from these doom messages are they implying such a radical change that old stuff will no longer work? I know various previous versions of windows introduced many problems for old software (not just games) but my currect version of Windows 10 seems to work well on anything I've tried on my four month old Dell.

I think it is best not to jump on the Windows 11 train immediately and wait until there are more reports on how things work on windows 11 and the obligatory bug fixes from Microsoft.

As far as I have heard until now, there are still a lot of problems with Windows 11 at the moment, but most problems seem to have something to do with hardware compatibility. But if your Dell is just four months old, this may not be an issue for you.

In terms of software compatibility, windows 11 is more or less the same as windows 10 under the hood, so there shouldn't be too much problems with that. Microsoft even announced a software compatibility guarantee for all software companies and will help companies out who should encounter problems for free.

The best course of action in my opinion for now is just wait and see how things develop.

I was running the game fine under Win 7 and refused to go to Win 10 because of the problems other forumites were describing. A hardware problem forced me to go to Win 10 about 3 years after it came out, but by then most of the issues had been documented and workarounds found. Thanks to this forum the transition was not as painful as I thought it might be, although I was never able to get AE running in full screen. I found I could live with windowed mode and the game continues...
