Phanatikk -> 004385C5 error (10/9/2021 3:39:12 PM)

I get these a lot. Often during the Diplomacy phase. More often in Harm scenarios than in Classic. I can rarely get to 1806 without it happening, unless I exit the game often and reload. But that gets quickly annoying. It usually happens sooner in Harm scenarios. I can rarely get far at all when playing Turkey, regardless of which 1805 scenario. I only play 1805 scenarios.

"access violation at address 004385c in module 'eianw.exe'. read of address 2ade0f94"

windows10
compatibility mode XP SP2
run as Administrator

No other user apps (browser, email, etc.) running in background. A lot of trash windows apps disabled to reduce clutter.

I save the game frequently as sometimes I can Restart my machine and reload the game and progress further. Sometimes the cause of the error seems to be saved and requires a new game.

Sounds like some system-specific issue on your end? My playtests were stable and no one else has reported this problem. Maybe make a new clean install? The installer remaster should be ready soon, and maybe that will help. I’m on the road this week but can take another look next weekend, running Turkey in alternate 1805 scenario. Not sure what may be giving you this problem. Sorry.

Unistalled the program (once using the in-game uninstaller, once using windows) and re-installed from the v1.23.08 download. When the program starts, I get an Error Code 100 (serial number issue.)

Apparently neither uninstaller completely cleans the registry keys, as I did not have to re-enter my serial number.

Hello People,

I do get these too. (Access violation at address 004385c5 in module 'EiANW.exe' Read of address 572AOF94).

I uploaded the May 1805 Land phase. When you proceed to the June Diplomacy Phase there are 3 DOW options to try.

1) DOW on Breisgau. Just north of Switzerland.

2) DOW on Naples which is allied to Spain.

3) DOW on both.

Option 1 yields no error and the game proceeds normally.

Option 2 yields the error and Naples does not bring up the defending troops. However, if you click on the Naples space afterwards, the defending units appear and an attack can be had. The Diplomacy is still active and you must click the advance button once more.

Option 3 is the most interesting. The same result as 2 plus the Breisgau space goes inert. It continues to show a war status with France but the space cannot be conquered. No garrison can be placed and no defending troops appear.

It will remain this way until another major power buys enough influence to have it become a conquered or free state in status.

My gut tells me it has to to do with a minor being allied to another major power but it's a guess.

Thanks much.

P.S. I did uninstall the game and manually deleted any residual files.

Then a reinstall in admin mode with the compatibility set to to XP Service Pack 2 in Win 10.

This all went smoothly but the above mentioned issue still arose.

Thanks, I spent the past couple of days looking at this. I was able to get the access violation and tracked it down to the 'ai_get_area_with_hostile_units_adjacent' function used for setting up the DOW'd minors. However, I was not able to pin down a source and resolve anything. Not sure why this would have caused an issue out of the blue. Who knows.

I shifted gears to work on some Editor improvements. During this process I noted that my \Data\tables\eianw002.tpj had been recently changed and was not the file dated 4/1/2021 that it should have been. I'm thinking the access violation may have corrupted this file. I restored it and upon returning to look at this access violation bug again I did not get it.

A reinstall should have resolved the tpj file issue. But I suspect the game save may have also contributed to the issue still arising; i.e., the access violation may have corrupted both the tpj file and save. I don't know. Whatever, I'm not able to recreate this again on my end with v1.24.00 that I'm working on. Maybe I fixed something along the way. I'll circle back to this after I look at a couple of other reported bugs and see if I can run this down.

pzgndr,

I know these things take time as is with any worthy works in progress. I think it's great you have the kind of knowledge and dedication to advance EiA.

I have started saving every turn on the Land Phase in hopes to give you the playtesting results that are of use to you. If you need any changes to the reports I make please say so. ;-)

I see you do take the time to address every concern brought by people, which is rare, and know how emotionally draining that can be over time. Big Time Kudos and Thanks.

P.S. I was the 1st place winner at the 1983 3rd Reich tournament at the wargame convention in San Mateo, but I digress.[:)]
