I've not very good with the air management and have chosen to us AI air assist. Which has many short comings, but the air management part has just seemed to high a learning curve to even want to attempt to climb without feeling like work and not fun.

However, now I need to learn at least how to try and interdict naval supply as the Germans against a Sevastopol fortress. Can somebody link me to a YouTube video that can show me how to accomplish this? Can it even be done when you start a game with air assist enabled?

thanks

why not follow the steps in the manual on how to use the AI-assist to set up naval patrols?

as a bonus hint, you may need to scroll down the list of targets to select Sevastopol but really all you need is to tell an AOG (& anything either with specialist naval air assets or standard level bombers, plus a fighter AOG if you need will do) to run naval patrol off ..xxx .. and its set up

Thanks Loki

I followed the instructions and was able to get some interdiction (air battle) hexes to show up after air execution. Not sure what they mean and they are scattered around the port. My guess is higher number are better. Will have to find that information in the rules. I also did see that lots of my air groups were set up on 'Hold' which didn't seem right since I'm on the move in summer 41. Changed those to flexible, but AI air assist might change those back. I'll find out on the next turn.

generally use 'advance' with the Axis in 1941.

very roughly

'advance' follow the HQ, to some extent set up between HQ and front line
'flexible' more or less stay in the same area but shuffle air bases to optimise desired coverage
'hold' stay on current air bases unless the HQ moves
'retreat' inverse of advance

The AI assist won't overwrite these stances as they are a key input to your desired air allocations

to see interdiction, there is a button on the map mode, if you flip that on, you'll see on map interdiction

anything >0<1 shows as a red or black star, 1+ shows as a number. To isolate a port you need 2 over the enemy in the valid hexes (Sevastopol if I recall has 2 exit hexes), so if you have 5 and the AI 3, you isolate the location - and, at sea, the hex is set to Axis controlled

Thanks was able to figure this out with your post and 24.5.2. Naval Sea and Air Interdiction. Now I'm wonder how long it will take to see the effect on the troops. I can only imagine they have a stockpile of supplies/ammo/fuel and will take a while?

I have been able to interdict / isolate Odessa, without AI assistance (i.e. manually), long enough to take Odessa.

But it required I re-base 'Flieger Fuehrer Ostsee' to Romania and use in conjunction with 'Dobrogea Rum. Air Command'.

I emptied out an AOG for this - 'VIII Fliegerkorps', and assigned both groups to it.

Then did a manual sea interdict mission with it and targeted a hex approximately 2 hexes off the coast of Odessa. I set the radius to 2 hexes.

It only took a couple of turns before Odessa was isolated.

However, I seem to suffer high rate of AC casualties and don't think I could sustain this for more than 3 or 4 turns, max.

You can assign fighter units to Naval ops as well - they will defend your interdictors and attack the enemy's. Of course you have to get the ME-109s in range and supplied, which isn't so easy.
