Why this obsession with the Middle East? We have Germans, English, Italians, Americans and even sometimes Russians and Japanese engaged in massive battles in Africa, Egypt, Iraq, Turkey, Abyssinia in quest of land that has no major capitals and usually terrible supply and difficult terrain. What's the point?

Zeckke -> RE: The Middle East (10/21/2021 11:17:15 PM)

The fleet, having this countries that you mention allow allys to stack planes which is terrible for axis, besides if axis control Suez channel and countries next to channel allows axis fleets to do whatever to India a more far..

Turkey is to embarrass Russia

In the past, not so much in the present, and certainly the future --> All roads lead to Jerusalem.

All the oil wells; controlling those can make or break your entire war effort.

Zeckke -> RE: The Middle East (10/21/2021 11:54:57 PM)

dangerous theme jerusalem

for me if axis capture egypt, if allys (always axis get the second general from Berlin) so i use egypt to stop germans at Greek land by transfering troops
if the middle eats is for captured jerusalem i will sell it to the axis¡ in all my games

World War II, the Nazis did not goto the Middle East for oil. There were no pipelines & no Kinder Morgan drilling experts. The British found some oil, one thing in 1940, getting across the globe in middle of war, well, Shell, Marathon, Chevron, & Exxon weren't renting mega tankers. Yanks did start pipelines on USA soil, late in war.

The Germans couldn't even get supplies to Crete, in Operation Mercury in early 1941. People that believe it was for oil, have the wrong war. Really? Germany couldn't even sail a ship out of Kiel without problems. They certainly weren't stupid enough to say, "Hey, lets sail unarmed tankers (Germany had none) from Kuwait back to Kiel. Lets build a pipeline across the continent(s), yeah, right.

Germany went to Egypt to capture the Pyramids, unify the Arab nations, and close the Suez Canal. Then ultimately, the plan to stomp Jerusalem. Well, put their stamp on the Temple Mount.

All roads lead to Jerusalem,

right, good explanation, axis didnt go for oil, the wanted the channel Suez to help Japans at INDIA

but, back into the game; neither Jerusalem and Paris are important in this game; what is great (in the game) is conquer EGypt by the japans, gives lots of supplies and japan can jump into Europe well suppliyed,

Maybe you're right, maybe Adolf was going write Mein Kampf 2nd edition, while playing Axis & Allies collectors gold original, and envisioned the Battleship Yamamoto sailing to Rome.

Juntas in Cairo ain't gonna happen against top talent.

Zeckke -> RE: The Middle East (10/22/2021 12:50:02 AM)

for sure that if German conquer Egypt second edition and the third if won second WWII

ElvisJJonesRambo -> RE: The Middle East (10/22/2021 1:45:52 AM)

Should've, Could've, Would've.

Adolf didn't get to spend his pension. His retirement plan may have been an airplane trip to Sweden, then boat ride to Columbia. But I highly doubt it, he munched a Lugar round.

Free will, he chose poorly. That spirit had to be tweaked, but hey, not my final binary call.

My take on the history of German intervention in Middle East is that it was to prop up and save face for Mussolini after his 1940 defeats to O'Connor in East Africa and Libya.
It wasn't an offensive but politically German Fascism was styled on Italy. Maybe, too, there was a fear that Franco would react negatively to swift UK victory in North Africa.

The Afrika Korps had sole task of preventing fall of Tripoli (or Tunis - can't remember where they landed). Rommel wanted to do more and despite not having the supplies used the lack of communication to go rogue and do what he wanted. Despite his early successes they lacked the supplies for a strategic victory.

In the game, the Axis can achieve Strategic Victory by splitting North and East Africa and threatening the Caucasus and India.

ThunderLizard11 -> RE: The Middle East (10/23/2021 1:34:14 AM)

For Axis - North Africa is a diversion. Best to hold off Allies with minimum German support which is needed on Eastern front. For Allies, a few key NM reducers to get Italians out.

Zeckke -> RE: The Middle East (10/26/2021 1:16:56 PM)

Nah... Afrika is to support italians evryvody who plays axis wants a not defeat of italians, whant do you do as axis without italians?
