Harrybanana -> Question for Alvaro (10/27/2021 4:44:57 AM)

Alvaro, The rule as I understand it is that a fleet that uses more than 24 OPs for its move will only do 1/2 damage while raiding. Is this correct? If so, does it apply to raiding sub fleets as well? I ask because in a pbem game I am playing my opponent's 3 sub fleet moved more than 24 OPs to raid and against 10 escorts sunk 5 MS and 1 escort. This would be pretty good for 1/2 damage. So I am wondering if the subs just got lucky or if the rule about 1/2 damage doesn't apply to them.

Of course, sometimes the escorts get lucky too. Such as here where a different opponents single escort got 2 hits on my subs.

Yes when I saw the outcome I was delighted of course [:)]. But I think I just got lucky. We all know the RNG with the subs is pretty big. But maybe something is not working alright maybe good to check.

I did move 2 on the start of my turn to the convoy land and sank 3 MS...which seemed high.
Then the next 2 turns sank only 1 each so in the end worked out.

I assumed it was a very lucky roll.

Luck is a factor. And yea if you move 2 Opts in a turn your damage is reduced... but once you are there and dont move it isn't

stjeand -> RE: Question for Alvaro (10/27/2021 3:45:41 PM)

Is damage reduced if you move one?

So basically...

2 Op points left max damage
1 Op point used, 1 left, normal damage
0 Op points left, reduced damage

OR is it the same if you have 1 or 2 op left?

I have seen subs with 0 OPs left sink 3 MS from time to time. This makes sense as I have also seen subs with 1 or more OPs left sink 6 MS, so half damage of 3 MS is OK. But I personally have never seen a 3 sub fleet with 1 or more OPs sink 10 MS. So when I saw a 3 sub fleet with 0 OPs sink 5 MS I thought maybe I was wrong about the 1/2 damage thing. But Alvaro says otherwise so I guess MM just got lucky.

I did get some revenge on MM on the next turn when his same U-Boat fleet only sunk 3 MS and took 3 sub hits (the only hits I have got on his subs in the first 5 months of the War). So the BOA continues to be very random.

1 and 2 are the same. Luck is a huge factor in naval combat as it was in real life.

Best I think I have sunk is 9 once with 3 subs, 10+ was only with the surface fleet.
