billrco -> Help for Color-blind (10/31/2021 5:25:12 AM)

I see many colors fairly well, but red and green are a problem. When looking at railroad hex status, I can’t tell the red and green circles apart. An option to change the color of one status would be very helpful. Also, when looking at the weather map, I can’t differentiate clear and light mud areas.
An existing feature I appreciate is the option to change Army colors.

I feel for your disabilities. I believe the HEX rollovers; although more work might give you an idea of what it going on.

Finally, some of this sounds like it might be address by a color blind mod that changes colors in the palette related UI tiles.

There is a JSON text file which can be edited for fonts, but I have found nothing except individual files which can be altered for the palette.

Good luck!

PS1: I am not being insensitive to your plight. I have nerve motor illness and for games (not really this one), but some use a million micro buttons on the screen edge. It is is very hard for me to hit those without jerking the maps. Fortunately, I am a software engineer and am able to convert those to hot keys bound to programmable and unused keys like the NUMPAD.

PS2: Zovs is working on a terrain mod and is beta. I would contact him as I think he has a very good sense of the construction of the GUI. (Additionally, he has modded counter edges for a 3D look. This is exactly the area of the game which concerns you.)

Zovs -> RE: Help for Color-blind (10/31/2021 10:45:21 PM)

For the record I have only made a counter mod and have no intention to modify the map.

I might be able to make a color blind mod for counters but not really sure what colors color blind folks can and can’t really see, so not sure which color to use for red (guards).

Modifying the UI is beyond my pay grade.

Thank you for your response. I did recently discover that with hex rollovers I can see the rail damage status of a given hex. That helps a lot, but it would be nice to see the status region-wide.

Thank for your response. I am a newbie playing my first WIE2 campaign game. I recently realized that with hex rollover I can see the rail damage status for a given hex. This is very helpful, but it would be nice to see the screen-wide status. I have been playing war games since the sixties and sometimes color problems have come up. With a board game I could at least mark the questionable hexes with help from a friend. Nevertheless, I am enjoying WIE2 a lot!

Here is another idea which might get you the big picture.

Sorry, I am in WITW at the moment so I cannot post any screens of WITE-2.

You know how there are a few color tones which correspond to:

Friendly controlled
Friendly captured
Friendly will swap (next turn)
Enemy controlled

There are also 3 tones for rail hexes. When are these displayed? When, you have selected one of those independent engineering units which is used to repair rails.

You can find the units (just a few) either from the Commanders Report or by using one of the hot key CTRL-NUMBER which will highlight them.

Once, you select them, all rails hexes which you control will have three shades (maybe brown or burgundy ... in WITW now).

Neutral Friendly = 100% functional
Darker Brown = damaged
Lighter Brown = set to repair next turn, since you used the unit

I think even though the unit cannot make it to the hexes in the current turn due to MP, they still shade.

Give it a try, and see if you can catch it with your vision.

Good luck.

My first idea won't work. Try this. Turn on your depot/logistics mode.

Can you see the difference between green and black. The rails are black, because no supplies are running over them. I think WITE-2 should be the same. (I removed units.)

WITE-2 ... start of Leningrad

I drove across the border. Turned on logistics, and turned off units.

Can you see the black track in the area where I own? This is BAD track. Can you see the colored track? This is GOOD track.

Why do I have a green section beyond my most East Depot? Because the little rail bots did this fix on their own; so it is German gauge.

I hope that helps you.

Also, another good indicator here is that you can see from the bars above the depot supplies are not getting through. There is a reason for that.

I attempted a mod with the following changes to the rail status coloring
- yellow (rail not damaged but not connected) -> white
- orange/amber (rail repaired, will cover to ready next turn) -> grey
- red (rail damaged) -> black

Effect is shown in the enclosed pic. Modified files to follow in next post

Pls find the modified files. Extract the files and copy to [game directory]\Dat\Art\Units. Remember to backup the original files first.

Change to the colors can be easily done by any drawing software. I use the freeware Paint.net.

That's really kind of you.

I have programmed lots of game utilities, but given my generation doing hands on tech ... I never really got much exposure to graphic tools. (By the time multi-media and PCs were born, I was already management.)

Good hunting to you!

This mod would be perfect for me. Thank you for doing this. I am touched by the many responses to my origami post.

billrco -> RE: Help for Color-blind (11/2/2021 6:10:49 PM)

I meant Original, not Origami above. How embarrassing.
