Yogol -> Transport groups, Italian airforce and bomber supply. (11/5/2021 7:57:03 PM)

Hi, three questions about the air force...

1) Is there a way to use the transport groups without the AI assist? I can't figure it out, and the manual doesn't really say.

2) the Italian air force (if one can call it that), shows up in the reserve box at one point, but I am not able to place it anywhere on the map: when I create a new AOG, the Italians never show up.
How can I get them to participate?

3) Do bombers use supply in turns that they do not fly? I think they do, but I am not sure.

And two general supply questions...
4) If you hover your mouse over a rail-hex, you see how much supply it processed the previous turn.
But that seems bugged: I got a line where in the first hex, it says 5500, the second 11000 and in the third hex 5500 again. Is this a known bug?

5) And how do those numbers on the rail-hexes relate to the supply that is processed in the depots? I have several examples where the last rail-hex before a depot says 1000 supply processed but the depot itself received 3000 or so.

Regarding Air Transports, I have not really tried anything other than adhoc resupply missions - which they can be very useful.

Using them in this manner, you want them based as close to freight stockpiles as possible.

During your ground movement phase, hit the F9 button to go into "Air Transport Mode".

Then select a destination hex (by clicking on the map) (preferably one with an airbase)

This will bring up a list box of possible Transports / Escorts available, as well as some defaults pre-selected.

WARNING - be very careful with the pre-selected defaults. (this was previously garbage, but may be getting better with latest beta...)

-----

That should get you started....

Regarding Air Transports...

Thanks!

Anyone knows any answers to 2, 3, 4 and 5, please?

4. That's not how much supply was processed, that's rail usage on the hex. Rail usage is a product of rail capacity, which is generated by railyard beyond level 2. One point is essentially one ton of FREIGHT (I think) moving one hex. However, once past a certain number the costs start stacking up. And the number doesn't reset to zero.

5. There are usually multiple connections, and am not 100% sure if the number decreases after or before supply calculations.

1 - I can find a lot in section 22.5 of the manual, not sure if you've overlooked that?

2 - I can, so not sure what you are doing. I simply create a suitable AOG at the locations and then attach the planes. You can't move out of the reserve on the turn a unit is allocated to it, so look at the detailed tab, stuff that is locked is bounded in red

3- the airbase will pull supply to need, repairing damage generates a freight demand, so there can be stuff going on at the airbase even if they do not fly. I don't think that purely resting planes that are undamaged generate a supply pull though.

4 - it doesn't, what is shown is a combination of last turns unit+freight moves/6 (usually there are variations to the divisor) plus any unit moves in this turn. As ever with WiTE2 there is a random element at play and for T1 the scenario designer can set inherited (ie t0) usage levels to reflect pre-scenario rail usage

5 - I'm afraid this compares hippos with apples. As in #4 above what you see is the residue of what was transported. So in your eg 6000 tonnes came to the hex before the depot, 3000 was claimed by that depot and I presume the rest (if its all freight and doesn't include unit moves) went to other depots

3. The airbase unit itself always generates a supply demand. The use of fuel and ammo to fly the planes woould not be part of that demand if they do not fly.

In the case of Italian aircraft dont you need an Italian AOG available to be able to transfer the aircraft to the MAP?

If I am correct, in the GC41 you would have to wait until they appear, sometime around Turn 8+.

loki100 -> RE: Transport groups, Italian airforce and bomber supply. (11/10/2021 9:33:25 PM)

you certainly need some level of Italian air command, so yes thats a feasible explanation for any delay in bringing them on.

I find them pretty useless in 1941, take supply, short ranged, low experience just get in the way? Better in 1942 when the supply constraint is less

OK for 1-4.

Point 5 is still odd. The 6000 - 3000 - 6000 was on three regular hexes of a rail line, not with a depot on the 3000. It is not that important, of course. Just curiosity, I suppose.

That was indeed the reason. The Italian AOG has arrived and all is well now. Thanks!

loki100 -> RE: Transport groups, Italian airforce and bomber supply. (11/12/2021 11:46:12 AM)

there is a random element, as is typical of the wider design, so that can produce humps in usage. The other possible reason is that while /6 is the normal rate of clearance, clearance is slower if the 'usage' was triggered by interdiction (partisans or air) and if the usage went over 30k (reflecting the higher level of congestion).

Here I think usage of 30k+ is cleared at /3 so can hang around a while

Yes, after a few turns, the numbers that were show became equal. Oh, well.
