Amadeus -> combat predictions (11/20/2021 5:24:00 PM)

Hi guys,

what does the 2nd number in combat predictions mean.

For example: +25% TA=4-1,5=2,5

What is the 1,5 standing for

The 1.5 comes from the enemy unit's research level. So the USSR tanks must be getting 1.5 hard defense from their tech level (so I think that would mean they are level 3).

Thank you for that
I still have a questions?

Is it the Hard Defense Tech or Hard Attack Tech?

Why is the value of the same unit different for being attacked by these 2 enemy units in the same turn?

HA=5-1=4
HA=5-1.5=3.5

Because the USSR unit is infantry tech level 1 so is getting +1 hard defense (that is the -1 against the 6th army) and +1.5 tank defense (that is the -1.5 against the 3rd Pz). It might seem confusing but its because infantry tech gives more increase in tank defense (1.5) than hard defense (1) per level.

The predictions are so often wrong, I wouldn't place any more value in them that you would trying to count cards in Vegas...

Thanks redrum68 for these explanations..and makes this more clear. Still..the Random Number Goddess can be a fickle being......

Correct, and just to add to this, the amounts that are subtracted, is the relative amount that is the same tech level increase for both the attacker and the defender that is then cancelled out.

The reason for this is in the past we found that if we didn't cancel out the matching tech increases (that then applied to the attack and defense increases), it resulted in a heavy weight knock out for both parties, which didn't really work out in game.

For example, heavy tanks, for both the defender and the attacker, if both upgraded to Level-5 (as an example) would result in combat loss predictions of 10:10 and both units would be wiped from the map after an attack.

But if you don't have matching tech increases, so let's say you have Tanks Level-1 and the defender has Tanks Level-0, then the attacker will have a full tech level advantage in the attack.

They really shouldn't be outside of the +/- 1 from the random combat modifier. If you find that they are and have an example where it is reproduceable, please let us know.

Is there a way to turn the predictions off?

I guess my dream would be for them to be 'interpreted' by the general who's HQ is commanding the unit(s) in question. Therefore, run a gamut from 'meh' to 'wow, the second coming of [name your buff general here].

I find that having predictions is kinda not too wargamey, for me. I think it's ok to get a feel for things, but there is this element of being very divorced to some degree from age-old calculations that we have to do as the player (terrain, morale/org, command modifiers).

Yeah, a lot. And the more intense the amount of information (which computer games lend themselves to), the less pratical that is.

But I do think there is something to not having the predictions, or having a range of accuracy (that is tied to some variable).

Unfortunately no, there is currently no option to turn off the combat predictions.
