Bertram -> * Contains modified unofficial data (11/22/2021 6:37:13 AM)

In a PBEM++ game I get this text in the "my games" list. It occurs only by one of my opponents, and he told me that he got the same message on his side - but only in the game against me. We just started a new game (I reacted to a challenge from him, send a turn, have not had a reply yet), and I get the same warning.
The turns run fine, no problems loading the files. I was thinking a version difference, but as I understand that would make the save files unable to load? And we seem to have the same (1.01.02_Beta) version... (at least as per the last communication about the version, some time ago, when the message popped up for the first time).

That scenario is edited.

hover mouse over that line and it say what exactly is edited

to verify your files are ok just load editor, then generic data. It should show them all as official. If a scenarios is modified it should show the modified string

Hovering over the line is a neat feature - didn't know that. What exactly is edited is "Nations". Can't open the scenario, as my opponent started the challenge. I'll ask him when we resume...

The scenario and generic data is all loaded in when the scenario is started. At that time, if any of the generic files or the scenario being loaded is not an officially signed file, it will display the message about containing unofficial data. What version was used when your game was first started? Occasionally I'll miss signing a file in some of the test versions I send out, but I don't remember missing any in a version that went to the public. If you can tell me what version was being used when the game was started, I may be able to look back to see if a file was not signed then. Otherwise, it would indicate a file had been modified. I'm pretty sure I recently forgot to sign a file in one of the test versions, so if you're playing against a tester that was using one of these recent test files, you'd see this message. It was one of the versions between 1.02.01 and 1.02.06 that had one of the generic files go out unsigned.
