DeletedUser44 -> Axis Theater Box weirdness, questions... (11/29/2021 2:53:35 AM)

As posted before I (along with many others) love the "Enhanced Theater Box" feature.

But, at the same time, there is some weirdness that eventually needs to be addressed.

1. NAVAL (air)

Currently, only Norway(N), Italy(It) and North Africa(Af) have any NAVAL TB garrison requirements.

Which leaves the question, why does Western Europe(W) and the Balkans have all these naval aircraft then?

(1st turn, you have to re-base a bunch of naval air and hope they get to their destinations before you take the VP / AP hits)

Personally, I have a hard time understanding why WE does not have any NAVAL garrison requirements.

2. Woefully under-strength initial TBs (Grand Campaign)

You start the game with all of the TBs way under garrisoned and nearly immediately begin getting punished for the Scenario designer's failure to account for it - AND - it is impossible to address it for a good 3-4 turns.

You should at least give the player some time to manage all of the TB shortfalls before you start deducting APs and VPs. If, after a couple turns, the player still doesn't deal with it, yeah, they should be punished. But punishing a player for an ill-conceived initial TB deployment seems a little unfair.

3. TB Status information

Some of this information is less than intuitive, not explained or contradicts the user manual, and still has me scratching my head.... for example:

In the picture attached, just looking at the Flak data:

Ground - Flak (low)(8%): 1.30
Ground - Flak (high)(2%): 1.9

Air Day - Flak (low)(10%): 0.98
Air Day - Flak (high)(101%): 1.9

What does the (%) next to each unit type represent? (8%)? (2%)? (10%)? (101%)?

Why is "Ground - Flak(low)(8%)" 1.30,
when "Air Day - Flak(low)(10%)" is only 0.98?

When you look at the total for AIR DAY, it is "11.87 (11) : 107%",
but when you actually total the nested elements (9.80, 0.98, 1.9) it comes to "12.68".

Why is it different?

In general, I simply cannot get the TB Status information to reconcile in many cases. And it is more than just a rounding error.

4. Recon Aircraft

Do Recon AC factor into any of the TB garrison requirements? What is to keep Germany from totally striping all TBs of Recon AC?

-----

5. Are Theatre Boxes fully implemented? I only asked because it looks rather incomplete to me and curious if this is on the schedule to be completed at a later date?

The loss of AP in the first moves is necessary, this encourages the player to immediately try to solve the problems of theaters of military operations, without postponing it on the back burner.

Some units are missing, like for example an entire Croatian Army in the Balkans. However, outside of Africa I think the garrison requirements are way too high.

The % indicates the Max CV you can get from these unit types, expressed as a percentage of the "base" CV.

If you look at the Finland picture you posted, the "Low Flak" contributes only to 0.98 of the Air requirement (10% of 9.8), even though you have a good 1.30 On the other hand, it contributes to the full 1.30 for the ground requirement, since you are below the threshold (8% of 154) !

It is very useful to review these value once in a while, because it indicates units that are overloaded (ie. they do not contribute to anything : it's wasted CV). In your example the artillery and contruction are a little bit overloaded (spoiler : it is nothing compared to Italian Bombers)

What I do with these units : send them to the Reserve for redeployment (or other TBs if you have a pressing need)

Thank you. This is very helpful information. I can see where, now understanding it better, it can be used to better meet TB Garrison requirements.

Too bad you were not tasked to write the section in the user manual covering this.
