Never knew an aircraft could detect radio transmissions. From scen001v5, December 1941 A Devastator unit performing ASW mission for a USN CV TF. "TBD-1 Devastator reports radio transmissions at 207, 90 near San Francisco"

Some of the systems used to bomb targets at night and/or bad weather in the European theater used these. They were also used to home in on a radio signal such as one from a radio station or aircraft flying to a ship.

I vaguely recall Alfred or one of the Developers stating that aircraft with air radars can get their detections by passive means (detecting the enemy signals) as opposed to active radars. And Allied radios did have some ability to detect direction of transmissions - by rotating that circular antenna often seen on the top of the fuselage, I guess. I don't know how it is modeled, but in the real world an aircraft at higher altitude can detect transmissions further away. Could be a reason to send PBYs on high search once in a while.
