Stelteck -> Strategy for grand campaign :attack everywhere or center focus? (12/15/2021 1:25:52 PM)

German side :

So we have the 5th and 6th panzer army that are made for crushing though in the center and reaching the sea, but there are a lots of volksgrenadier divisions.
What do to with them ? Do you prefer to attack everywhere it is possible ? Stay them to only hold the line in defensive position ? Try to hold the line with as little troops as possible while sending unused troops to the center hole (or holding the line in the center ?).

Some elements i noted :
- Volksgrenadier troops can do a lot of damage in the offensive due especially to corps support artillery, which can be deadly.
- There is enough supply/ammo to have everyone using their maximum firepower all the time, so no real need to hold back some parts of the front.
- Volks divisions consume few fuel, so using them will not take a lot of fuel from the 5th and 6th Panzer army.
- Volks replacement are not compatible with replacement from panzer divisions, so using Volks divisions will mostly not take replacement away from 5th and 6th panzer army.
- In the north, there is a lots of good allied troops, so attacking here may be not wise.
- In the south facing the 7th army, the ennemy is weak and gaining ground easy.

Of course if you attack with them, they will take looses so maybe it is better to spare them to be able to defend later in the campaign ?

Also fighting near the border of the map looks unatural as nothing can come from, it is quite like cheating, but you can really lessen the front lenght and create a lot of reserve by cleaning the map border north and south.

I am into turn 5 of WaR...its way to early to tell and I suspect I'll be starting this scenario again ready to 'really play', after I learn 'how the game' plays in this Big Scenario.
As in what the AI does, how it fights, and most importantly, what the balance of forces means especially regarding as you allude Stelteck, the huge disparity in Infantry.

To start the Germans dont have near enough and the quality is lower by comparison , even American 'green' vs. Volks, the unit balance of forces always means the US Inf. have a large quantitative advantage in Regt., Bn., and Co. supporting arms, as in way more bazookas, anti tank guns, attached tanks and trucks.

Early it appears the US fights only by Co. or 'Task Force', meaning even Volks can win as regt. sized units......but I expect later that will change.

I have no idea what replacements I'll get and the cards get expensive and I am not sure how many I'll be able to buy.

So, all that adds up to me right now knowing the only way I have any chance to win even a minor vict. is to grab as much space as I can, then trade it when the weather turns clear and US and Brit reinforcements show up in bulk. So I attack with Volks Inf. whenever and wherever I can if it takes me forward to a really superior defensive area I can use later.
