Zovs -> Recon Missions 20k high Flak? (12/15/2021 7:37:57 PM)

Not sure if this is a bug or just misunderstanding on my part.

Start of turn 4 ground phase of GC 1941 solo (AI on 110).

I setup 13 Recon AD with the following settings:
Altitude: 20,000
Intensity: Low
D1 and D7

After running those Recon AD (the air execution phase summary shows them listed as type: Interdict) and the end result was:
Total Sorties: 2110
Aircraft Lost: 79
Damaged: 52

Enemy Aircraft Lost in air combat: 1
Damaged: 2

In in recon instance I lost 12 recon aircraft, the Air Recon Value was +71 and the Soviets had 277 x 76.2mm 3-K AA gun, 183x 37mm 61-K AA gun and 93x 85mm KS-12 AA gun.

That is an awful lot of flak, however I was flying at 20k.

You have to fly at 22k or higher to avoid 37mm flak. Can’t avoid the larger calibers.

From my experience I enjoy running recon missions at 17k, as its a high altitude but still close enough to the Hs 126 B-1s max altitude speed. Though I'm not sure if it matters that much. Try that out if 22k doesn't work out for you.

Thanks for the assist, I’ll try 22k.

I am not sure how much that can be worthy though as supposedly the Recon Plane lowers itself to the needed altitude to take the pictures?
I've read that somewhere I believe, so the altitude parameter serves mostly for the 'flyover' flak?

Yes, I think that's right, the a/c will recon the hex at the best altitude for the equipment it has.
