MemoryLeak -> Supply, Detailed Combat Results and Detailed Hex Info (12/18/2021 12:11:18 AM)

Once again I bought another game from Matrix. and once again I am completely baffled by supply. Yes , I have read the manual. I always slog through the manual before I play the game.

Can anyone explain supply or does this go on the shelf with all of the others? Is there an option to turn off supply and not have to deal with that complex crap? I mean I can't figure out if I can lob artillery shells in to my hearts content or if I am depleting ammo somewhere in some obscure little row in some obscure little column in a chart? I am so frustrated with everyone of your programmers making every game a supply game and not a war game.

Two more things I can't find in the manual. They may be there but I am going to ask you guys. I was really starting to nod off about six hours into the manual so I could have missed it. And by the way, tutorials would be nice . Yes I watched several videos by various people but the scary thing is , I knew more about the game than they did. They started off each video with the words, " This is my first chance to play the game" Give me a F'ing break Matrix. How about putting out official videos and use someone who speaks English and knows what they are doing. And stumbling through turn after turn and guessing what each counter means and graph and abbreviation just doesn't cut it.

Screen by screen, display by display explaining everything is my idea of a tutorial.

Anyway, the combat details text window that displays after an attack doesn't make sense. For instance one column is labeled retreat and right next to it is alive. The same figures are always in both columns. So this means all of my mean retreated and all of the mare alive? What the hell. I can't find any place that explains what the figures are trying to tell me.

And the Hex detail display that you get by right clicking on the picture at the right-side of the screen. Is there a place that explains every column?

If I missed the explanation in the manual I apologize. But I did try to read every word.

Sorry for my attitude but I've been down this road so many times and if money meant anything to me I would have quit a long time ago. Order of Battle is the only game that you made supply logical and not a dominant factor.

Thanks

You are overthinking the game

Click on a unit, click "S", shows you the supply path

Click on the unit button on the lower right of the screen, click on unit detail stats...shows your unit supply.

Supply reports can be found here

Supply details can be found on page 76.

Hex details, mouse over the columns and you get pop ups

You just need to get into the game and play. You'll figure it out

i will just have to ignore supply and attack whenever I want because I can't tell if I am using too much or have a surplus.

back to the combat results test box.

Why does it show my units retreating and the exact same number in the alive column. What the heck does that mean?

They retreated from the battle, but not the hex. The attack was not a complete success. The only supply you need to worry about is fuel. When your panzers run out of gas, you'll know. Red oil cans on the unit icons. All the other "supply", I don't worry about. Far as I can tell, never ran out of ammo for artillery.

I know I promised a series of tutorials on various aspects of the game system. As some of you know, I was called up with the Reserves for COVID19 support doing CTT. Once I got some spare time, I'll also add supply, combat mechanics etc. on the list.

That is supply status after 12 turns of firing artillery without restrictions. It looks like the only problem is actually delivering supply to units on map from rear area depots.

I honestly wish I could comprehend supply or the thousand of other pieces of data that are thrown at me but are meaningless or so overwhelming that it is pointless to try and look through it all each time I move a unit.

Because right now this game is on the same level as the Order of Battle game. I just move and attack with whatever unit gives me the best odds. No strategy involved. Just move and shoot. Like Panzer General.

Thanks for a look at the chart but it might as well be in Chinese. And if I am running low on fuel or ammo, what can I do about it?

I can't even figure out why or how I would switch units from combat to march or God help me, to try and put them on trucks. Was the programmer on crack? I'm ready to uninstall this one just like the other ridiculously complex games. It just isn't worth the mental frustration to try and deal with it.

MemoryLeak, just chill and check your supply overlay using button on bottom left or S button. It will show the supply line or lack thereof to the unit you selected. If a unit is yellow red for supply, better to leave it wait and try to collect supply cause of combat debuffs you probably saw in the manual. And unit cards have this turn supply on top right as well as the actual unit supply on the bottom right which is most important to be green. And you can play cards that add supply and fuel in some battles. For arty, check your level of interdiction if the arty cards are turning yellow like snow next to sidewalks where dogs are in copious numbers.

Order of Battle has supply too in the towns and ports and what not so you need to capture enough towns to keep overall supply up. I have barely touched that game though, but I know getting low in supply in that game is catastrophic. I tried their Marines DLC campaign but had to give up cause the islands would never get supply even with supply ships docked. It was a bit messy so I prefer games like this one and Panzercorps.

Thanks for the replies. I have put several more hours into playing the game and I went over the manual again.

I use the supply over lay a lot. In fact I just keep it on. I don't know how to affect supply but so far it doesn't even seem to be a factor. I really prefer to play realistically but I just can't get past the superficial level in this game. I would like to use the march and transport commands but they are too hard to figure out and I don't know if there is an advantage to even dealing with these commands.

and I played many hours without realizing there are different height levels. I can't even see them on the map. and the only place I have found that gives the height of a hex is over on the right side and if you select hex at the bottom and then the hex in the graphic window. That is a heck of a lot of clicking to find the height of each hex. so it makes it not worth the time or trouble so it is just another thing to skip over.

Really? First battle with height differences tells you that:

MemoryLeak -> RE: Supply, Detailed Combat Results and Detailed Hex Info (12/21/2021 6:53:11 PM)

too many little icons present to click on everyone of them each time. So i just look at the odds. If you look at every possible thing in each attack display for attacker and defender, well I won't live long enough to do that.

is there a shortcut to determining the height of each hex when in the map mode?

and there is a little window that opens down towards the right side with distance and LOS as I recall. Makes no sense to me. do you know what the programmer is trying to tell us?

Khanti -> RE: Supply, Detailed Combat Results and Detailed Hex Info (12/21/2021 8:05:04 PM)

Yes
Choose your unit
It has 100% LOS in its hex
Line Of Sight
And less LOS in far away hexes
If there is less than 100% LOS - you don't have complete information of that hex
So enemy can surprise you there...for just beeing in "empty" hex

MemoryLeak -> RE: Supply, Detailed Combat Results and Detailed Hex Info (12/21/2021 10:03:52 PM)

ok, thanks for the LOS info.

and is there a way to determine the height of the ground? Other than several clicks to find out the height of each hex. I think that the graphics are suppose to be an indicator but I can't see any difference from on hex to another. But I can't read most of the text either. It is way too small. Especially in reports or graphs.
