This game digs deep in so many ways that some details can go unnoticed - for me, at least.

For example, I just "re-discovered" tonight that the color-coded officer command cards and officer skill numbers combine to enhance (or stack) leader performance in various categories.

For example, officers with a higher audacity trait (red-colored) positively affects any red cards the officer owns. Let's think Patton here.

There are potential oddities, however. For example, Allied General Huebner only gets a purple "lead" card, but his purple Organization skill is very low. So, why give a guy a card to enhance a skill that is not his forte? It's a design decision I am not in a position to debate. [;)]

Usually the higher level HQ units (corps+) have only purple cards in their deck. They don't have a lot of use for any other cards as they dont' have combat units (only some corps arty + AA).

Afaik their main purpose is to receive and forward replacements elements that you buy. Replacement elements enter the map and are forwarded to the closest highest HQ unit. From there, they're sent forward to the combat units in the next turn.

(I suppose that the corps HQs can only forward the elements to their subordinate elements? So if you have two corps HQs of equal rank as your highest HQs on the map, only one corps (the one whose HQ is closer to the entry point of the replacements) will receive replacements? But I could be wrong. Then again, you could simply attach units that are in need of replacements to the HQ that is closest to the replacements-map-entry-point. Attachment is instant and doesn't cost anything.)

Easiest way to manage replacement is to set HenzGruppen B to minimum (25%), then to set the low level formation that you want to receive replacement to PRIO.

What is "HenzGruppen B"?

I know you can set priorities. This helps to direct replacement troops from corps+ HQs to subordinate combat units.

However a corps+ HQ can only forward replacement troops that is has received from offmap. And here comes the difficulty:

Replacement troops automatically go to the highest ranking HQ that is closest to the map entry point of the replacement troops. So if you have two HQs of equal rank (e.g. two corps HQs), replacement troops only ever go to the closest one. The other HQ unit (further away) never receives any replacement troops and thus cannot forward any to its subordinate combat units, regardless of their priority settings.

(To bypass this, you can temporarily attach the HQs/troops you want to receive replacements to the corps+HQ that received the replacements)

Thanks for the answer to my question, which in turn, generated more questions, which in turn, is Good. It's like a mystery novel that slowly reveals the thoughts of the author, or in this case, Mr. Vic himself. Bravo to him and to those who understand the inner workings of this fabulous game.

Sounds to me like may need priorities for corps level HQs.
