actrade -> Cross Load Adjustments Question (12/22/2021 5:49:01 PM)

I'm not sure I'm reading this right on page 117 in the manual. "Each load point of troops loaded into
cargo space expends the specified number of cargo capacity points." For example, I am trying to load 390 troop load cost onto two xAKL ships operating in an amphibious TF that have a combined 0 troop and 2750 cargo space. Manual says for allies that has an offset cost of 8. So, if I have this right, I take 390 x 8 = 3120, which is why I can't fit it on 2750 cargo space, correct? Since the xAKL isn't a beaching craft, I assume this rule applies as well on loading. "1. Two adjustments are made in cargo space utilization for a Combat Load. Cargo capacity may be reduced to account for load inefficiencies
of combat load. This reduction depends on the type of ship:
»» Beaching Craft load at full capacity.
»» All other ships only utilize 80% of their cargo capacity, to reflect inefficiencies of combat load."

So, assuming my first point is correct at 3120 needed, you would also need another 20% or 3,744 cargo to actually carry 390 troops and land them amphib, assuming these two things stack?

If I've got this all wrong, I would appreciate an easy to understand summary of the correct way. Thanks!

Keep in mind that an amphibious TF will also load 3 days of supply so you will need more cargo space than you have calculated.

Nomad, it is actually three weeks of supply

From the manual:

6.3.3.1.2. COMBAT LOAD
Combat Load is for all land units loaded onto Task Forces with an Amphibious or Landing Craft
mission. Land Units must be in Combat Mode. In combat load, a land unit is distributed across
as many ships as are available, in combat size units (if possible).
1. Two adjustments are made in cargo space utilization for a Combat
Load. Cargo capacity may be reduced to account for load inefficiencies
of combat load. This reduction depends on the type of ship:
»» Beaching Craft load at full capacity.
»» All other ships only utilize 80% of their cargo capacity,
to reflect inefficiencies of combat load.
2. A minimum amount of supply, equivalent to three days consumption,
is required to be loaded with each unit
. This is added to the equipment
cost of the unit during allocation so that space will be reserved for it.
The troop and cargo capacity of ships is accumulated but not individually allocated.

But it is not all that important how much is loaded, just that the OP is aware that
some supply will be loaded in addition to the LCU and makes an adjustment.

After reading the link I think you are both correct. It depends on what happens once unloaded. Here's the relevant post.

Ok, the fun and frivolity of prison hulks aside, the example unit needs 12 supplies / month just to feed itself.
The amphibious TF has loaded 33 supplies, which is the equivalent of nearly 3 months worth of supplies if it was just food.

It would make sense that the amphib load is an estimate of 3 days worth of supplies required for combat ops, or hard fighting for 3 days after landing on a contested beach. This means the supply points represent a lot more than just food.

If that’s the case, the load of 33 points suggests that 1 day of combat, assuming Shock attack as the worst case, may consume up to 11 supply points or for this unit close to the equivalent of a month worth of food. I ran a small test on supply use in combat a few weeks ago but can’t remember if this aligns with the numbers I saw then or not. It may be a coincidence, but 11 points = the number of combat squads plus half the number of non combat squads.

I’m going to keep an eye on supply used during combat for the next battle I see on an island (so no supply flowing in) to see if supply used is roughly equivalent to the amphib TF “load troops only” supply load divided by 3. Plus I’ll make sure I have a follow up supply TF ready to unload within 3 days!
